Pawel,

I suggest you go to a good Library, and the Library of the University of Mining & Metallurgy in Krakow is probably one, and scan thru the last few years of the journal "bulk solids handling". And also see that you get hold of some of the "Best of bulk solids handling" books.

When you have read the relevant articles, you can then post very specific questions. And I am sure there will be experts who will reply to your post.

For elevating to storage Sandwich-Belt High-Angle Conveyors offer all of the positive features of conventional open trough conveyors but without the incline limitation. DSI Snake-Sandwich conveyors offer unlimited capacities while displacing minimal space.

Dear Pawel,

If you are interested in the potential for large power reduction on all classes of conveyor belts, increase in life and strength which all lead to lower capital and operating costs, drop me a note.

I am delivering two papers of significance on the above at the Beltcon 12 conference in Johannesburg in July and later in India in Decmeber.

I hope to also issue a Bulk Solids set of articles regarding coal lump degradation control and dust generation and emission control using advanced chute design techniques.

Hello Pawel Kawalec,

Coal is one of the basic materials for energy source, across the world. There are innumerable users of coal all over the world.

The coal storage and reclaiming facility may be mainly at three places (1) At mines, (2) At the plants using the coal, (3) At the transfer facility such as at ports or in-land facility between railways and road transport etc.

The storage facility at each of this place will be of specific design to suit the specific requirement. Please note that storage facility will be always accompanied by reclaim facility. The nature of the system will be depending upon the conveying rate. In view of this, there are various methods and models to handle the coal. It is better if you narrow down your area of interest and accordingly look for the type of coal handling system used for the storage etc.

Please note that there cannot be storage system in isolation. There will always be in-flow system and outflow system that could be of elaborate nature incorporating very sophisticated and specialized machines etc. Often, the coal handling facility will include crushing, screening, sampling, weighing, fire protection, etc. So the subject is vast.

Hope the information will be of use to you.

Ishwar G Mulani.

The basics for coal storage are well established. However, different conditions apply to large granular material and damp fines. A good starting point is to understand gravity flow regimes in storage, (Educational Resources for Particulate Technology Vol 1, No. 1,Art 3 (1999 Jan) @ 1999 Univ. of Florida), bin design geometry, (www.ajax.co.uk/hopperselectionchart), flow criteria, (Jenike Bull 123, Univ. of Utah), ‘Industrial characterisation of solids’(Ajax tech doc.), discharge aids and flow inserts, (Ajax tech doc.), Flow problems and solutions (Ajax tech doc).

It is not realistic to pick up the experience and expertise of a specialist by reading a few articles but a sound introduction enables a user to recognise the qualities needed to achieve a good design.

Dear Mr. Pawal,

Please specify the problem you are facing. For coal storage, the problem often we face is the recomended stacking height to avoid ignition.Do you have? Or else.

Dear Pawel,

To start you off, perhaps you can begin by considering the two most basic methods of storage namely open yard and covered storage. The management and stacking/reclaiming principles of the open yard system are fairly well established and published in many standards texts and articles. Whereas for covered storage, you might be able to find more information about slot bunkers and plow feeder arrangements more than others. Good luck.

Dear sir

For designing coal handling system following information is required

1.0 How the coal is received in power plant by trucks or rail wagons

This is required for selection of unloading facility

2.0 what is total coal requirement per day

This is required to decide coal plant capacity

3.0 what size of coal you are receiving

4.0 what size of coal is required by boiler

These are required to size your crusheing and screening plant

5.0 How much coal storage you need

storage capacity depends upon how regularly you are receiving coal

in addition to above your plant layout and space availablity plamajor role for designing coal handling system

Undersigned have designed more than 35 coal hanling system for power plants using stackers, reclimers, combined stacker/reclimers, movmovable wing trippers, shulle conveyor and plow feeder system, belt conveyor with telescopic chute etc system can be designed as per plant requirement

Dear sir,

In response to your recent inquiry, we would offer the use of our TEMCOR Aluminum Domes for your storage needs.

The Aluminum Dome is an efficient clear-span structure that offers many advantages over conventional types of construction. In comparison to steel or concrete roof systems, it is typically cost competitive and can be built in the least amount of time. Foundation requirements and other structural costs are also minimized due to the dome's lightweight all-aluminum construction.

As added benefits, the maintenance-free Aluminum Dome does not require any paint or protective coatings and its aluminum exterior never needs reroofing. The structures are custom designed to meet your exact size requirements and they can be engineered to support any live loads or distributed equipment loads.

TEMCOR has supplied over 6500 domes for projects worldwide and is the industry's leading designer and builder of clear-span aluminum structures. We appreciate your interest and hope that we can be of service to you in connection with any projects for which the advantages of our Aluminum Domes might be considered.
