We have a cement ball mill as follows:

MFG: F.L. Smidth

Dimmensions: 4.2 meters x 12 meters

Nominal capacity: 85 tph

We are to inject hot gases (25,000 m3/hr) into the mill at between 250 degrees C and 460 degrees C. the customer would like to find out if the hot gases could affect the bearing on the mill.

I would appreciate your help.

Hot Air Through Mill

You may be planning to introduce hot air for removal of moisture in the material ground in the mill. About 3 tons of water may have get evaporated every hour. You would also keep temperature of gases coming out of the mill above dew-point. Otherwise there will be deposits on filter bags of the bag house.

You would also be having a system of tempering hot air used for drying to reduce temperature when needed.

Normally bearings are water cooled. The lub oil circulation also normally has a heat exchanger to cool the oil. So there should not be any problem after you check these systems for adequacy.
