Try this tread, et al, for starters:

You can reason that the load is not constant throughout the height of the silo, hence the optimisation of steel to minimise expenditure.

I have that book. But I can not calculate the hopper thickness.
Because there are not enough information how to calaculate thickness of hopper. ■

Hopper Shell Stresses And Calculating Thickness
Hello
I am trying to calculate hopper stresses and thickness for conical silos.
1) I can not find any documents .What are the hopper stresses and and thickness formulas ?
2) I saw some silos. There are Different thicknesses on hopper steel sheet. I know load distributions on hopper. But I can not calculate different thickness for conical shape.
How can I find documents about this calculation.
Thanks.
