Bulk storage solution for wood pellets

Posted in: , on 24. Aug. 2006 - 19:32

What are available cost-effective solutions to store bulk wood pellets?

Total volume 3,000,000kg (3000MT).

Bulk density of wood pellets is 0.7kg/meter cube.

The size of each pellet is ~8mm in diameter and ~24mm in length.

We also need fast truck loaders.

Thanks

I think the best option would be Bolted silos with a drive through for a truck your welcome to look at our product. We would be able to sell you the product but Would not be able to erect it. Due to being from the U.S. you can look at our product at www.bolted-tanks.com

Thanks

A company down the way from us is building wood pellet storage bins. The pellets come in by railcar and leave by ship.

The company is Fibreco Export Inc. (www.fibreco.com)

Yes, I've seen this. What I'm trying to accomplish is to have most cost effective way to store wood pellets, rather than building storage facility @ $65/sq.foot.

Thank you for the replies!!!

I'm contacting them today... waiting for the reply.

You could always lease a small storage dome and utilise a central reclaim and stacker for same.

As already mentioned Laidig Systems of Mishawaka, Indiana offers excellent silos and unloaders for reliable storing and metering of wood pellets. As we represent them in your area we would be happy to provide more information if you are interested.

3000 te is about 4300 m3.

So take the cube root and you end up with about 16m, so you're talking about a bin block of say 4 x 4 cells 16m high. These can be raised for gravity feed directly into lorries.

The pellets can be handled by traditional mechanical equipment chain conveyors, screw conveyors. belt conveyors, bucket elevators from a reception point to load the bins.

Flat storage and reclaimers are widely used for wood chips, but pellets will flow better. And if you need to repair the reclaimer when it's buried in material, oh joy!!

But you really won't be able to make a decision untill you get comparative costs of different systems.

Laidig reclaimers have a great history of durability and great service. Maintenance points are located near access ports, and the units are desgined to be highly rugged and durable. I have customers throughout the northeast US that have Laidg units installed, and are very satisfied with them. I can supply references. I even take customers that are skeptical about hte units to other customer running the same material, because those customer like to show off the units because they are so happy with them.

Yes, if you are planning small storge bins for wood pellets, you can install traditional bins, welded for smaller units, bolted for larger, but the Laidigs can store up to 2 million cubic feet. They also supply pile reclaimers, so that if you just want to dump on a large pile, you can still acheive FIFO with your product.

I don't doubt the claims, but if you're the 1 in 1000 who has a problem does it get dug out for free??

As for size only 150,000 ft3 was asked for.

Yes, they will clean it out and repair or replace warranty item.

150,000 ft3 is about a 40' diameter x 140 high, and this is flat bottom silo.

Bulk Storage Of Wood Pellets

Posted on 14. Sep. 2006 - 02:53

Good morning Serge,

For loading trucks with wooden pallets we do have different options.

What kind of trucks / how big are these, required loading time / number per hour, number of silo's if stored in a silo ??

We, Nicor international are producing belt throwers special made for loading standard iso containers / sea bulk containers through the back doors.

With this unit the containers can be loaded direct out of a vertical silo outlet

Capacities up to 120 / ton per hour, in practice this will makei it possible to fill up 3 containers per our out of one silo, incl. changing containers and inflating inliners.

The unit can be used for 20 ft as well as for 40 ft containers.

Please see leaflett and give us a reply when we can do something for you.

About the storage, we can do things here too but in that case we need more information. I think maybe you have to go for a big square flour silo with air tunnels. Than a conveying system from this silo to one or two or three loading silo's where trucks can be loaded.

This complete plant can be a serious project that fits perfect in our programm.

Thanks,

kind regards,
