Paint Job

Dear Sir,

I would like to know the correct paint to be used for protecting dewatering screens. Also would like to know a very durable painting method in the absense of a sand blasting unit.

What should be the primer used and what kind of surface preparation has to be followed.

We have been using PU paints and they tend to peel off as their bonding is not as high.

I need someone to give me a good painting solution right from surface preparation to the final coat.

New Painting Technology

We typically would sandblast steel down to a shiny surface or close to and paint with a primer and then 3-5 mil of enamel paint.

We just did a floating conveyor which we used a MARINE grade paint (very expensive) but, no peeling.

...................

OUr shops have just recently started using an interesting new technology which is a "SPRAY ON METAL PREP" which is very easy, very quick, very UNLABOUR intensive and lowers costs substansially vs SANDBLASTING.

>>>>>>>>>>

We just did a couple of jobs with this vs sandblasting, moving equipment around, etc, etc.....and on one job saved 100 hrs of labour and on another job saved 150 hours of labour.

THE RESULTS when finished were just as good as with sandblasting.

If you keep your steel undercover INSIDE from elements of course this nicely reduces PREP TIMES.....and mfg costs.

For regular Painting Procedure

Sandblast is recommend but not necessary

When sandblasing is not done use metal prep to wash down or wipe down equipment

to degrease metal

Then apply Intergard 345 epoxy one coat until all areas are covered usually in the result you

get 4-6 mills of coverage.

For data specs please look at the following data sheets attachment:

The price $48.40CAD/gallon.

For Marine Painting Procedure

According to customer's demands(water resistance, acids, salts etc) we can use different paint

Interzinc 52 - $94 per gallon

670 hs primer $65 per gallon

Top coat 990 $80.3 per gallon

Greetings Sandeep,

I am unure as to a proper answer as you have not specified as to

whether it is the interior or exterior of the wet screen.

Many people use the "Rust Oleum" paint brand for metal

protection and it is a matter of personal preference as to what

one wishes to use as minerals will wear away paint jobs

regardless of the quality of paint as in most cases it is a cosmetic

application and is soon gone having been worn away while it- the

screen is operating.

Are you screening drilling mud with your application?, If so how

many desilting cones are you using if any?
