Material Conveying on Air Slide

Posted in: , on 19. May. 2014 - 12:28

Dear sir

We are designing a conveying system with air slides. The material is Iron Ore Concentrate with moisture<0.5%, T=95 Celsius, and grain size of D80=1mm and Dmax=6 mm. I suspect that this particle size will cause problems in our 5 meter long air slide. Have you any previous experience on the mater? Are there any considerations that might help this?

Moreover, I really appreciate it if you introduce me a reference, textbook or paper or catalog or etc, for designing such systems.

If any other question aroused, please let me know.

thank you in advance.

Best wishes,

Alireza

Design Of Air Slide Conveyors

Posted on 22. May. 2014 - 04:17

Dear Mr. Alireza,

Basic design method for air slide conveyors is given in the book "PNEUMATIC CONVEYING OF SOLIDS" by Marcus, Leung, Klinzing, and Rizk.

Major design consideration for such conveyors is "fluidization velocity" that is required for fluidizing the solids being conveyed. This velocity will be higher for larger size particles than that for smaller size particles, resulting in much higher velocity for the 1 mm particles. To minimize their velocity, you should design the conveyor using the minimum fluidization velocity (Umf) for the 5 mm particles.

For fluidization, it is important that the material is dry and is not lumpy. Your 0.5 % moisture may be a problem.

You may refer to the above book for other design considerations.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Air Slides Design

Posted on 25. May. 2014 - 06:43

Dear Mr. Agarwal

A through and straight forward book. Thank you.

Since the project is in tender stages, this has satisfied our requirement for size evaluation of the fishy case.

About the moisture, since similar material is being conveyed with same moisture in another site using air slides, we think that it will not cause any problem if it stays in the same level.

If we have reached to the detail design stage hopefully, I will contact you for more information on the matter if it is OK with you.

I appreciate your kind help.

Best wishes,

Alireza
