Deflector Change to Widen Chip Piles

Does anybody knows about a device that would throw pneumatically carried wood chips in a wider pile. Right know, a bulldozer must go on the pile everyday to spread the top of the pile (causing chip damage and cost associated with maintaining the bull in good condition)

thank you

There is a solution to your stock piling issue

with regard to the use of the dozer to push back

the pnuematically delivered wood chiips.

The use of a high speed material thrower

which is also referred to as a ship trimmer,

or a jet slinger is a possibility and the system

delivering your wood chips requires a bit of

examining.

In this regard a number of questions must be asked to determine

the proper course if there is one and if it is something that will be

economically suitable for your stock piling requirments

before you can approach a distributor of material throwers

to inquire about a material thrower/stacker

1. what is the daily tonnage of wood chips pneumatically conveyed

2. what does the pneumatic delivery system consist of?

a. single pipe with dedicated pneumatic delivery system using high pressure air

involving an air compressor with a high volume high pressure flow delvery

system or a dedicated positive displacement blower package plant with air

lock gates to meter delivery and avoid plugging?

b.How long has the pneumatic delivery system been in service and do I ever clean

the delivery pipe with a pipeline pig or pig ball to eliminate any build ups of fines

by launching a scraper pig or pig ball from one end of the system to the stock

pile to clear any build ups?

c. If your system uses a positive displacement blower when was the last time the

systems air filters were changed?- The inlet restriction indicators are not fool

proof and the springs do become weaker in the signal housings. they will

become ineffective if debris enters the indicator inlet.

d. do you use cold water in the inlet air to increase the blowers ability to delliver

denser air to make the air stream capable of greater energy delvery in a more

dense air stream?

e what blower maintanance has been done if any, and was the blower regulator

releif system properly adjusted to compensate for the locations altitude

to create the proper pressure gradient?

The use of a stationary stacker conveyor

with a large hopper and fed by the

pneumatic delivery system with high speed

material thrower with a remote control

rotation system would create a much larger

conical fan stock pile with no need for the dozer

to to climb the chip pile and push the wood chips back.

You can use a pneumatic conveying system for this purpose. It will have a slinger at the end to make a pile.

I thought he already had a pneumatic conveying system

Chip Deflector

Hello edesbiens

this is a link to our web site that shows a chip deflector, we designed and fabricate for a 10" chip line, it swivels and has an adjustable tip, uses a slewing ring internal ball bearing for rotation.

Some mills program these into PLC's to have constant even movement, or use a wireless remote from an operators cab, others are stationary with a local control panel nearby.

Sorry the link did not seem to get directly to the photo, when on our site, got to the left column under [B]Railloaders/Deflectors, and the section photos, the lat picture of that row (orange and blue)

Pneumatic Pile Builder

Hello Edesbiens,

Hank Baum's (Baum Pneumatics) suggestion for a rotating and slewing nozzle is a good one. This type of nozzle has been utilized for decades in Canada. However, if you want to automatically build a really big pile, say up to 300' dia. x 50'high and ~10,000 tonnes in a circular, conical pile, you can do so with an automatic pneumatic pile builder that rotates about a central point. I know of two pulp mills in western Canada that have been using these systems for more than 40 years. If you are interested, I can send you some photos.
