We need expert advise from Hon. members of this forum about--

How much coal TPH we can handle through pipe conveyor, our requirement is 4000 tph which seems to be imposible. If we will convey 2000 tph of coal through 550-600 dia. pipe having speed of 4--5 m/sec.,what are the negative points for this selection.Coal size is 50 mm and length of pipe conveyor is 8.5 km.

Put It In A Pipe

Hi Anil Seth,

I am suprised that no one has any experience with a pipe conveyor.

My feeling is that many have experience with pipe conveyors, but no one has yet experienced one that would be 8.5 km long.

Let us look at it from basic principles. The reason for putting product in a wrap-around sausage of rubber is

1 - to control dust

2 - to be able to go around corners

3 - are you looking at a single drive, or multipe synchronous drives - you must be looking at a Megawatt of power

4 - There is a lot of steelwork to pay for, as well as 4 idlers per set, compared with a single idler with a troughing belt.

5 - That makes for 4 times the number of bearings you have to maintain. If a bearing goes, you can start a fire through friction of the rubber at 4 - 5 m/s

6 - For that length most engineers would be looking at a Cable-Belt Contract. At 8.5 km that would make a nice contract package for someone

Perhaps some of our conveyor salesmen are afraid of business in China.
