Order from South Korea:

EQUIPMENT FOR RECYCLING OF DUST FROM AN ELECTRIC ARC FURNACE

Rheinberg, Germany - August 2011 – An order for a bucket apron conveyor for the transport of 1000° Celsius hot DRI nuggets has been received by the Metallurgy Division of AUMUND from ZincOx Korea. The conveyor is part of the recycling installation currently under construction in South Korea for zinc-bearing electric arc steel works dust. The separation of iron and zinc oxide takes place during direct reduction in a rotary hearth furnace (RHF). It is scheduled for delivery in the autumn of this year. Commissioning is planned for the end of 2011, in time for the start of 2012 production.

The bucket apron conveyor Type BZB-H-I 400/300/5 has an axis distance of 49 metres and is designed for a capacity of 15 tonnes per hour. It transports the material from the rotary hearth furnace (RHF) to the briquetting plant. AUMUND received the new order based on its comprehensive know-how in the conveying and cooling of DRI-Pellets and HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) as well as in direct loading of electric arc steel furnaces.

ZincOx has focused on the reclamation of zinc from the annually arising 7m tonnes of dust from the steel production process. One very interesting region for dust recycling is located near the city of P‘ohang in South Korea, close to the steel centres in Korea, Japan and China. Until now more than half (57%) of the arising dust had to be disposed of on a fee-paying basis. ZincOx is now exploiting this niche. The British group has already been able to conclude contracts with some steel producers in the region. Purchasers of the recycled zinc are predominantly the Chinese galvanising plants. Experts expect a leap in production in this segment with a strongly increasing demand for zinc

The AUMUND Group is active on four continents. The conveying and storage specialists have special expertise at their disposal when dealing with bulk materials. With their high degree of individuality, both its technically sophisticated as well as innovative products have contributed to the AUMUND Group today being a market leader in many areas of conveying and storage technology.
