Spillage from Track Hopper Centre Table

Dear Experts

I am working in power plant and we have track hopper for receving coal.

Present Problem: There is a lot of spillage of coal from centr table.

"When we unload coal from wagon(bottom discharge), side of table there are two conveyors on either side but still lot of coal fall on the floor of track hopper."

What we did: We have increase the width of skirt board below the track hopper, but still lot of coal fall on the floor.

Photo is not helpful. If you wish a quick & dirty response, send AutoCAD drawing. It should be obvious where spillage is occuring. The spillage can be modeled with Discrete Element Model (DEM). We can offer a quote to do this and correct the problem, or just comment on drawing information.

Hello,

You have not described the system that is how the material is being fed to the conveyor below. However, I presume possibly you have traveling type paddle feeder mounted over the conveyor, to feed the material at controlled rate. In this case there can be two types of problems:

1) The hopper outlet and the material supporting shelf dimensions are not proper, resulting into material falling on floor, along the conveyor length (whether paddle feeder is operating or not operating). This type of problem will particularly occur when material from wagon is falling into hopper, creating agitation and impact and thereby the spillage.

2) The paddle feeder chute below the paddle wheel is of faulty design so that most of the material is going onto conveyor, but some portion is falling onto floor, instead of going into chute to conveyor. This type of problem will be visible during paddle feeder operation.

The remedial measure for sr. no. 1 could be: Reduce the hopper outlet opening height above shelf, so that material profile as per repose angle maintains edge clearance of at least 300 mm. This is to be done keeping in mind the lump size and material flowability. If the shelf itself is short, then you please see what to do. If the problem is of limited nature, then possibly you will be able to solve it by maintaining material depth at least one-third of the total depth all the time.

The remedial measure for sr. no. 2 could be: Rectify the chute so that all the material discharged by the wheel goes to the conveyor.

As I recall, coal is mainly a black particulate and that is not what is shown here. A drawing would have helped but seeing as none showed up after 3 months I assume you have solved the problem or learned to live with it.

Your photograph shows a clean yellow beam at top left. This beam is inadequate for supporting a waggon of reasonable size. There is a lot you weren't telling us.
