Bearing Temperature for Fluid Coupling

Posted in: , on 12. Sep. 2013 - 15:59

How much will be the allowable bearing temperature for the Fluid coupling?

Various manufacture have various temperature.

some are 130 deg and some are 160 degreee.

If the bearing tempearture is less, I think better life for fluid coupling.

Is it correct?

If the coupling running for long working hours, then upto what temperature is allowed.

Please suggest.

I can only quote your text viz. 'Various manufacture have various temperature.'

It's your purchase and the manufacturer's warranty etc. etc.

Unless you have comprehensive and variable cooling for the bearings the machinery will settle into a temperature regime and there is precious little you can do about it.

Dear Mr.Karthik,

The temperature increase will happen in fluid coupling when the turbine vane's RPM could not match with the RPM of pump's vane due to external factors in the conveyor or machine.

Bearings will not be the major reason for raise in temperature of fluid coupling.

Dear Karthik T.,

Levels 130°C and 160°C are being different executions of fluid cplgs (seals, fluid, melting plug, ...), this is defined during design based on power transmission, startup time lapse, legislation, $$$, ....

Bearing life should be adapted to design temperature level and lifecycle requirements / as specified by client.

Allowed steady state temperatures are different as per OEM, however an example (from EU) is

steady state temp. to be less or equal 85°C with a melting plug of 140°C

steady state temp. to be between 85°C and less or equal 110°C with a melting plug of 160°C

Pls. check this parameter with your specific supplier / OEM.

Regards
