ATEX Zones

Dear all,

we are developing a new type of continuous chemical reactor intended to be used in the pharmaceutical and fine and speciality industry.

My question is now how could we handle the Atex problematics in best possible way?

First what zones are most common in these industries?

If your equipment comply to the highest demands, zone 1? will the unit be ok in the other zones as well?

I am new to this forum so if you already have answered these and similar questions please direct me to the right threads.

Best Regards

Oskar

ATEX Zones are

0,1,2 for gases and vapours

20,21,22 for dusts

The highest Zones are 0 and 20.

Equipment for a higher zone can be used in a lower zone

Equipment for gases and vapours will not necessarily be suitable for dusts, and vice versa. (But they may be certified for both)

The ATEX Zones into which equipment is to be installed are determined by the plant operator as part of establishing a safe working environment for his employees.

Only Gas And Vapour

Ok Thank you Designer.

Do you by any chance have a tip on where to find a summary or a list of things you need to toake in consideration for the different zones?

For the equipment (just the reactor) and for the full system (Pumps, valves, reactor, injection system etc)?

Best Regards
