Dust Collector VS Dust Suppression System

Posted in: , on 10. Jan. 2018 - 15:37

Hi Friends,

There is an iron ore crushing plant with capacity of 3300 t/hr which located in a desert area, it includes primary crusher (Gyratory), stock pile, secondary crusher (3 Cone Crushers) and screen department (4 screens) and the moisture of feed material is less than 3 percent, as I found out, companies either work and offer dust suppression system or just dust collector (bag filter/Scrubber) so first of all I would like to know, is there any company which work both systems, second which system is suitable for controlling dust in iron ore crushing plant in your view point.

Yours Sincerely

Mehdi Ohadi

Dust Control

Dear Mehdi,

first of all I suggest to prevent dust creation before trying to suppress it with water or collect it by bagfilter.

About Dust Collecting Solution

In my opinion, dust collectors are more commonly applied by the manufacturers who are meant to clean the iron chips or the residue of other kinds of metals up. In this way, they can ensure clean working sites, which thus reduces the chances of tool deflection or product deformation.

The best thing that I've used is a dust collector.

The best thing that I've used is a dust collector. I don't know about you, but mine would be useless without the plastic case. It keeps the dust down and out of the way while still allowing me to see what's going on underneath. When I bought my first dust collector, it was only a purchase of time. As soon as it was time to use it, I realized it was more than just another item in my household that needed to be maintained. You can read some dust collector reviews to make your choice. I don't be disappointed in them.

We at Best-Chem have removed the need for using expensive dust collectors by designing a foam dust suppression system,

In order to prevent dust particles from getting airborne, foam is introduced in controlled measures at transfer points, immediately prior to the crushers or directly in to the crushers. This ensures that all the material is fully coated in Foam.

Foam System Vs Dust Extraction System

* Dust extraction and fogging systems are trying to treat dust that is already airborne

* Once dust is airborne it is very difficult to control

* Dust extraction systems have a very high capital cost followed by higher running and maintenance costs.

* Foam systems require a fraction of the amount of energy needed to run an extraction system.

* The maintenance requirement of dust extraction systems are substantial and as a result they often fall into disrepair.

* The removal of the extracted dust is another consideration and activity that needs to be managed to allow the Dust extraction system to function.

* Dust extraction points are needed at every dust creation point and this is often neither practical nor cost effective.

Foam System Vs Fogging System

* Fogging systems are designed to suppress dust that is already airborne - which is often too late

* Once the airborne dust has been wetted there is no control as to where this wetted dust will settle. It will often fall onto plant, machinery, building, walkways, ledges and the surrounding area.

* This creates a further housekeeping task as the dust can potentially become a hazard.

Limited effectiveness.

Foam System Vs Water Spray System

* Up to 50 times as much water is required to have the same effect as foam

* Only effective when moisture content is not a concern

* High moisture content increases the likelihood of blinding screens or blocking chutes.

* Access to high volumes of water is required

* Benefits Of Foam Dust Suppression Systems

* PREVENTS THE DUST FROM GETTING AIRBORNE

* Foam systems use up to 1/50th less moisture than water spray systems whilst achieving up to 90% reduction in fugitive dust emissions

* Less moisture in the material reduces the wear on the crusher parts

* Less moisture in the material reduces the chance of the blinding during the screening process which is a significant problem with conventional water spray systems

* Less moisture can offer significant savings in downstream processes, such as transportation costs, or drying costs, in asphalt production for example.

* Foam systems expand the physical properties of the water allowing for greater coverage with reduced water consumption. Ideal for situations where water is in short supply.

* Wetted dust particles will then continue their entire journey through subsequent crushing and screening process to the final storage bins without ever getting airborne

* Reduces the amount of housekeeping required

If you need any more information on how a foam dust suppression system could help your site, please feel free to message me for more information
