Brabender FlexWall®Plus Feeder
The Brabender FlexWall®Plus Feeder proven in world-wide applications is a super compact universal metering feeder for virtually all bulk ingredients conceivable. It is available both as a fully digital loss-in-weight feeder or as a volumetric unit.
The original Brabender FlexWall® feeding principle featuring a paddle-massaged flexible polyurethane hopper in conjunction with the trapeziform design and divergent hopper walls ensures real mass flow without bridging and makes the feeder independent of stirring agitators and their disadvantages. The trapezoid shape results in enormous floor space saving in circular arrangement of several units around a central point of discharge, allowing extraordinarily compact multiple feeder configurations. The gravimetric version features the digital load cell DigiMASS-2 with two vibrating wires compensating physical interference and ensuring utmost reproducibility, linearity and long-term stability.
The Brabender FlexWall®Plus Feeder is equally suitable for powders, granules, pellets, flakes, chips, fluffs and glass fibres. Interchangeable single and twin screws allow optimum adaptation to changing ingredients and feed rates without feeder conversion and enable feeding of virtually 100 % of all flowable bulk ingredients – also of most critical additives. Exchanging the screw from the rear end within minutes is made easy by an optional pivoted drive motor.

Brabender FlexWall®Plus "Easy Change" Feeder
The Brabender FlexWall®Plus "Easy Change" Feeder solves the problem of production runs with changing recipes composed of numerous different bulk ingredients and at varying feed rates. The hopper, screw, screw tube and casing are designed as one replaceable feed unit, which can be lifted off inclusive of the residual ingredient after having opened two quick-release locks while the drive motor and the paddle unit remain in place. The design does not only allow convenient external cleaning of the ingredient-touched parts but also reduces downtime for recipe change-over to a minimum if the feeder is provided with a replacement unit containg the new ingredient. The new feed unit is simply put in place and fixed by the quick locks.
As the motor and the paddle unit are required only once in the basic feeder, a larger number of ready-to-operate exchange feed units with different raw materials can be kept in stock at a low price. Of course they can be adapted to other ingredients and feed rates as well by a simple screw exchange. A multitude of interchangeable single and twin screws is available for that purpose.
The Brabender FlexWall®Plus "Easy Change" Feeder also yields substantial benefits where metering feeders need frequent cleaning because production can be continued with exchange units while cleaning the exchanged ones. As these have no electrical appliances, they are fully suitable for wet cleaning.

Brabender FlexWall®Sanitary Feeder
The Brabender FlexWall®Sanitary Feeder is a variant of the Brabender FlexWall®Plus Feeder, which has been systematically designed for sanitary applications, for instance in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. So - on the one hand - utmost importance was attached to easy dismantling and cleaning. While the basic system already allows easy dismounting of the flexible hopper for wet or dry cleaning or - in case of one- way hoppers - for disposal, this was additionally put into practice for instance by the utilisation of quick connect couplings and quick connect screw joints for easy dismounting of component groups without tools. On the other hand, a particular goal was the effective prevention of contamination by microbiologically, chemically and physiologically harmful substances. This was achieved by using physiologically uncritical, FDA approved materials resistant to cleansing agents and disinfectants, high-quality stainless steels and a wide range of designing and manufacturing measures to prevent pores, recesses and hollows, which might otherwise promote bacteriological contamination due to deposits of dirt and liquids. For free flowing ingredients without the need of agitation the feeder is also available without paddles.

Brabender FlexWall®Pharma Feeder
The Brabender FlexWall®Pharma Feeder combines the advantages of the FlexWall® principle featuring a paddle-massaged flexible hopper and compliance with the great demands made on hygiene by the pharmaceutical industry. The unit is designed for quick dismantling and cleaning. For disassemby, the feed unit consisting of flexible hopper, gear coupling, screw, screw tube and downspout can be removed as one unit for external dismantling and cleaning. For this purpose all its components are interconnected by quick clamping rings. Housing and extension hopper are also connected by a quick clamping ring. For reassembly, the feed unit is positioned in place and fixed to the gearing by means of the quick clamping ring. The sealing lip of the upper edge of the flexible hopper is then placed between housing and extension hopper. When connecting these by means of the quick clamping ring, the lip is pressed in for tight sealing. All sealings are equivalent to those of aseptic pipeline connections. The sealing system allows interior and exterior wet cleaning. The dynamic sealing at the gearing can be removed for cleaning by opening its quick clamping rings. A protective gas connection is available as an option. All steel parts in touch with the ingredient and the housing are made of stainless steel 1.4404 (≈ AISI 316 L). The flexible hopper consists of FDA approved PUR. The feeder is available as a single or as a twin screw model.

Brabender Twin Screw Stirring Feeders feed bulk ingredients with problematic flow characteristics. Particularly the self-cleaning twin concave screws allow to feed powders with poorest flowability as well as adhesive, sticky or floodable bulk ingredients. Brabender RotoTube Micro Feeder
The Brabender RotoTube Micro Feeder is a loss-in-weight feeder in miniature and feeds fine-grained ingredients down to a minimum feed rate of just a few grams per hour. The feeding method is based on a rotary tube with an internal particle guidance system. If more coarse-grained ingredients, particularly granules, are fed, individual grains can virtually be dispensed one after the other. Digital High-Tech Load Cell DigiMASS-2
DigiMASS-2 ("Digital Mass Acqusition Sensor System – 2 Wires") is a digital load cell for gravimetric Brabender metering feeders featuring real comparison of masses and two vibrating wires. Two wires arranged at a right angle to each other and prestressed by a comparison mass are excited by electrical exciters inducing resonance vibration. Applying a load to the wires changes their frequencies of vibration in proportion to the load, while one wire is loaded and the other is relieved. The frequencies are read in by a microprocessor, which converts the frequency ratio into a continuous serial weighing signal and transfers it to the controller of the metering feeder equipped with DigiMASS-2. The frequency ratio as an absolute value is independent of physical ambient influences and remains constant even in case of changing ambient influences so that the measuring accuracy is not affected. In conjunction with an additional software filter for dynamic electronic vibration attenuation the system ensures utmost reproducibility, linearity and long-term stability and thus optimum feeding accuracy and reliability of gravimetric metering feeders. The built-in microprocessor and the serial interface offer high-speed data communications and thus shortest reaction times in the control loop of the weigh-feeder. DigiMASS-2 has a theoretically utilisable internal resolution of 4,000,000 d and is distinguished by its high electromagnetic compatibility.

Brabender ScrewDisc® Feeder
For gravimetric feeding of granules and free flowing bulk ingredients Brabender Technologie KG offers the Brabender ScrewDisc® Feeder featuring a completely novel metering principle offering remarkable advantages over conventional screw feeders. The design features a vertical metering screw mounted on a rotating disc. These are arranged in a specially shaped outlet made of conductive polyurethane, which is transparent for visual inspection. A tubular PUR insert slipped on the screw replaces the conventional screw tube. The entire unit as a whole is the actual metering feeder. Brabender DualTray Feeder
The Brabender DualTray Feeder, a mass flow metering feeder featuring vertical flow of the metered ingredients and utilising natural bulk ingredient flow and gravity, is supplied as a loss-in-weight feeder mounted in a free-standing mounting base with load cells. The operating principle is based on cylindrical feed modules with semicircular guide and feed trays across a part of the modules' cross sections, which are configured one above the other in opposite directions with their discharge edges overlapping. Applying vibration and thus changing the angle of repose induces ingredient flow. Following gravity, the ingredient flows downwards across the trays similar to a cascade, while the flow rate is controlled by variable vibration. Switching vibration off stops ingredient flow instantaneously because the ingredient assumes its angle of repose again. Hence, the feeder is particularly suitable for batching. As it has no rotating parts, it is suitable for damageable ingredients. In addition, its operating principle makes the feeder suitable for bulk ingredients with grains of different sizes, lumpy media and fibres. The feeder was designed for easy dismantling and quick cleaning. The feed unit can be disconnected from the vibration drive by releasing a fixation handle so that the feed modules and the outlet cone connected by clamping rings can then be removed for cleaning or replacement after relasing the rings.

Brabender SiloTray Feeder
Bin activator and metering feeder in one: The Brabender SiloTray Feeder is a vibratory discharge and metering bottom for supension from silos and bins. Special hanger arms allow horizontal vibration while at the same time centering the unit due to their high restoring forces. Variable speed unbalance motors vibrate the unit for reliable bulk solids flow and control the discharge rate in conjunction with a frequency converter in case of volumetric feeding and, in addition, a Brabender microcomputer controller in case of gravimetric loss-in-weight metering from a weighed bin or gain-in-weight batching into a downstream hopper scale. Refilling of loss-in-weight feeders at a defined rate is another application feasibility. The working method independent of stirring agitators enusres non-compacting "first in - first out" discharge without bridging or particle deterioration. Diameters from 450 to 1200 mm for rates from 100 dm/hr to 100 m/hr offer suitable units for small-size bins to large-scale silos. Accessories for bulk ingredient metering feeders: Brabender JetFilters
Brabender JetFilters are low maintenance air filtering systems featuring fully automatic self-cleaning by compressed air pulses and are applied as dust separators for air streams escaping from continuous and discontinuous bulk ingredient metering feeders due to air displacement during refilling. The filter material in the filter cartridge, compactly arranged though offering a huge filtering surface, ensures optimum surface exposure to the air stream and thus highly efficient filtering. At the same time the system features low flow resistance and thus constant air throughput avoiding differential pressure. If, however, differential pressure is required - for instance in case of protective gas blanketing in the bulk ingredient hopper - closed versions are optionally available. Filter cleaning is effected fully automatically by compressed air pulses while feeding the raw material caught in the filter back into the metering feeder and thus into the production process. All Brabender JetFilters are explosion-proof as per ATEX II 2GD/2GD.

Liquid Metering: Loss-in-Weight Feeder with Variable Speed Metering Pump
The classic solution among the Brabender liquid feeders is the Brabender Loss-in-Weight Liquid Feeder. The storage hopper weighed by a digital load cell and the variable speed feed unit are mounted on a common base structure but are isolated from each other by a highly flexible transition sleeve. Depending on the characteristics of the medium to be fed (density, viscosity, solids content, temperature, reactivity, toxicological properties, etc.) and the requirements of the respective process (accuracy, feed rate, turndown ratio, counterpressure, etc.) suitable metering pumps are chosen that meet those requirements (piston, diaphragm, gear, hose, rotary piston or eccentric screw pumps, etc.). Brabender Liquid Feeding Station with Coriolis Mass Flow Meter
The Brabender Liquid Feeding Station uses a Coriolis mass flow meter in combination with an upstream variable speed metering pump controlled in dependence on the measured values of the flow meter. System advantages are high feeding accuracy, high insensitivity to ambient physical interferences, a fitting position at choice without the need to isolate the system from a scale and compact dimensions. In comparison with loss-in-weight liquid feeders there is the advantage of being able to achieve heated designs without the immense technical provisions otherwise necessary due to weighing hoppers and flexible connections all requiring heating and insulation. The Brabender Weigh-Belt Feeder is a speed-controlled gravimetric feeding unit designed to feed normal to well flowing ingredients. It is distinguished by high accuracy, stable design and compact dimensions even in case of high feed rates and can be used for continuous feeding applications, for batching and as a measuring belt feeder for continuous throughput measurement. In its least extended version the Brabender BatchMaster consists of a central hopper scale with Brabender FlexWall® Feeders or other ingredient-suited Brabender feeders in circular arrangement above for gain-in-weight batching into the scale. To feed roller-mounted containers instead of a hopper scale, platform scales are used to weigh the containers.
In a second version the feeding stations are placed in line, while the system can be equipped with an integrated travelling and autopositioning hopper scale or weighing system taking up interchangeable containers, which approaches the individual feeding stations in accordance with the set recipe and collects the respective batches in gain-in-weight mode. To feed unweighed containers, gravimetric metering feeders are used, such as Brabender MicroBatch Scales or loss-in-weight batch feeders, which again are either arranged circularly around a collecting hopper or in one or two lines.
In-line installations can be equipped with traction systems for roller-mounted containers moving the container to the single feeding stations in accordance with the recipe and back into a container removal position.
The Brabender BatchMaster can be configured for any number of bulk ingredients. Supplementary bulk ingredient handling systems for storage and refilling complete the Brabender-BatchMaster.

Brabender MicroBatch Scale
The Brabender MicroBatch Scale is a small-size scale for automatic gain-in-weight batching of small bulk ingredient amounts. The central unit is a weighed bowl, which tilts over after completion of the batch and discharges its contents. The 360° turn and the semispherical shape ensure complete discharge without residues, particularly of poorly flowing ingredients. Upstream feeders are automatically controlled by the Congrav® microcomputer controller belonging to the scale.
The Brabender MicroBatch Scale can be combined with all kinds of feeding devices. High accuracy is achieved by using coarse-fine flow feeding or - in case of feeders controllable over the whole turndown range - in A.R.T. mode (Automatic Rate Turndown), where feeder rates are run down in a curve function from an autocomputed “turndown point” to the switch-off point, which further improves the batching accuracy.
Complete single or multiple ingredient batching stations are available including support structures and Brabender feed units with pneumatic quick-closing valves as well as versions without controllers with special interfaces for integration in OEM systems.

Loss-in-Weight Batching
One of the numerous Brabender solutions for accurate bulk ingredient batching is the loss-in-weight batching method. This method can be applied with every Brabender Loss-in-Weight Feeder due to special batch programs for the single and multi-feeder controllers from the Congrav® controller line. The principle is based on sensing the hopper filling level by weight when starting the batch and automatic switch-off when reaching the target weight computed by the controller. Digital high-resolution load cells, serial weight data transmission to the high-tech controller and special modes of approaching the setpoint (target weight) ensure utmost accuracy.

Brabender Coriolis Mass Flow Scale
The Brabender Coriolis Mass Flow Scale meters bulk material mass flow by Coriolis force measurement. The bulk material is supplied from above and fed onto a constantly rotating impeller wheel driven by a three-phase current motor. The centrifugal force diverts the material radially and conveys it forward. The tangential Coriolis force acts on the guide blades of the impeller wheel and causes changes in the torque of the drive motor in proportion to the current throughput rate, which are sensed by a load cell. Based on torque and speed, an evaluation unit computes the current flow rate, which is both displayed and issued as a continuous actual value signal for recording or control of an upstream variable speed metering feeder (screw feeder, rotary valve, etc.). Complete proportioning configurations of that kind can be supplied.

Brabender Bin Activator BAV
The Brabender Bin Activator BAV is a vibratory discharge aid for silos and bins ensuring a constant bulk solids flow even in case of poorest flow characteristics and if silo diameters are large but outlet cross sections are small. More than 20,000 units in operation throughout the world do not only speak for the quality and reliability of this often copied but never matched discharge aid, they are as well striking evidence of the trust our customers extend to the original.
The Brabender Bin Activator BAV consists of a discharge cone with integrated baffle support, which is safely suspended from a silo-welded flat ring by horizontally flexible hanger arms with high restoring forces. An unbalance motor generates a horizontal circular vibration of the suspended part. The discharge cone, the motor support and the stabilising flange form a stress-free constructional unit ensuring even distribution of the dynamic forces. The BAV manner of operation allows non-compacting discharge according to the "first in - first out" principle and uniform filling of downstream metering feeders or conveyors. In addition, the deaerating effect of the unbalance movement prevents floodable materials from gushing out and homogenises the bulk density.
The model sizes range from 600 to 3000 mm diameter so that suitable units for all silos and bins are available. Bins and silos may be made of mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium or plastics material. The Brabender Bin Activator BAV is available made of either mild or stainless steel.

Brabender Bulk Bag Unloader "BagMaster"
The Brabender BagMaster is a bulk bag unloader for lined or unlined bulk bags up to 1.5 tons. The most outstanding feature is its unconventional discharge system with massage ring mechanism. The bulk bag is centrically placed on a horizontal massage ring with a front gap, through which the bag or liner outlet is guided. As the outlet does not have to be lifted above the ring, headroom requirement is substantially reduced.
The massage ring is equipped with so-called massage rods around its circumference. For bag discharge the ring and thus the bottom of the bulk bag is set into a see-sawing movement by a pneumatic cylinder making the massage rods act on the lower bag sides and particularly on the bag corners, which can normally hardly be emptied. At the same time the see-sawing motion acts on the outlet itself, which is not agitated at all by conventional designs. The agitation thus achieved results in mass flow inside the bag, uniform bulk ingredient discharge and complete emptying-out also of the bag corners even in case of poorly flowing ingredients.
For dust-tight docking of the bag or liner outlet spout the Brabender BagMaster is equipped with the QCD (Quick Connect Docking) system. For docking the system is lifted up, and the outlet is connected by a quick clamping ring. To tauten the outlet, the system is then lowered again and locked. For lined bulk bags a double clamp system is available for separate clamping of the bag outlet and the liner outlet.
Thanks to a variety of options and design variants the Brabender BagMaster can be customised and designed so as to meet specific requirements. So, for instance, it is available with a built-in metering feeder. A variant of this design placed on load cells allows continuous or batch-wise loss-in-weight metering directly from the bag. Further options include versions placed on load cells with evaluation electronics for filling level monitoring, versions with built-in cranes and explosion-proof designs complying with ATEX 95.

Brabender BagDumper
The Brabender BagDumper bag dump systems are available in two versions. The first version consists of compact add-on extension hoppers for the Brabender bulk ingredient metering feeders FlexWall®Plus and FlexWall®Classic, allowing to fill bagged ingredients directly into the feeder. The steep-walled design and the large outlet cross-section congruent with the huge inlet section typical of FlexWall® feeders result in excellent ingredient discharge. The little floor space requirement of these feeders, in particular of the Brabender FlexWall®Plus Feeder in super compact trapezoid design, is not increased. The bag dump hoppers can be connected to suction systems with central filters or can be supplied in glove box design. Their little weight also allows to use them with gravimetric feeders.
As a second version, the Brabender BagDumper is available as a separate bag dump station. The modular design allows extension by a glove box for dust-free bag emptying inside the closed bag dump station, an attached filter refeeding filtered particles back into the system, and a bag disposal module for collection of emptied bags in a waste bag hose without removal from the station. For poorly flowing ingredients a variant can be supplied including a Brabender Bin Activator BAV. The defined discharge rate makes this variant also perfectly suitable as a storage and refill station for loss-in-weight feeders. Brabender BagDumpers of the second version also allow direct integration of Brabender metering feeders for reliable bulk ingredient discharge and metering directly from the bag dump station.

Brabender Flat Gate Slide Valves
Brabender flat gate slide valves with double-acting pneumatic drive are mainly used as automatic refill valves for loss-in-weight feeders, serving to unblock the ingredient stream for feeder refilling and to shut off the refill device again at the end of the feeder refill phase. Their short opening and closing times make them particularly suitable for this task. Of course the slide valves can also be used for any other application requiring reliable and quick release and interruption of bulk ingredient streams.
Depending on the required flow volume and the respective pipeline diameters, Brabender flat gate slide valves are available in standard sizes ranging from 65 to 400 mm diameter. Upon request, further diameters can be supplied. The slide valves are supplied fully assembled including a 5/2 way solenoid valve. All parts in touch with the ingredient are made of stainless steel.
For applications where bulk ingredient flow can be shut off manually, a hand wheel version is optionally available.

Direct connection of metering feeders
to automation systems
For direct connection of gravimetric and volumetric bulk ingredient metering feeders to automation systems (host, PLC) Brabender Technologie KG has developed a new control configuration. "Intelligent" Brabender metering feeders equipped with the new on-board control and regulation modules ISC Plus provide the basis for a highly flexible choice among a multitude of interfaces (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, Profibus DP/DPV1, DeviceNet, Modbus RTU) for multiple feeder connection to almost each and every automation system. Special communication modules facilitate an integration in PLC groups like Rockwell ControlLogix and Siemens S7. Such an integration into the automation level does not affect the function and metering accuracy of the feeders so that Brabender can still fully guarantee proper function and accuracy. As a particularity, a wireless version of the system is available. Up to 16 metering feeders can be connected either to automation systems or to the Brabender HMI (human-machine interface) Congrav® OP12 Touch without cabling (except for power supply cables).

Connecting gravimetric Brabender
metering feeders to automation systems
Suppliers of automation systems (PLC, automation software) for the process industries often offer integral solutions for direct control and regulation of gravimetric metering feeders like loss-in-weight feeders, weigh-belt feeders, etc. However, this does not go without risk due to the complex interaction of metering, weighing and control functions, and only proprietary controls can guarantee failure-free feeder performance.
As a solution, Brabender Technologie offer their gravimetric metering feeders with on-board control and regulation modules ISC-CM plus (control module) and ISC-FC plus (speed control module with frequency converter). In Ethernet or field bus interconnection, feeders can thus be connected to almost all automation systems due to a broad variety of interfaces like Ethernet Modbus TCP, Profibus DP, Siemens RK512, Modbus RTU, Data Highway plus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, etc. For easy plug and play integration in PLC modules like Siemens S7 and Rockwell ControlLogix special loadable function blocks (software) are available. As a result, it is the optimally suited proprietary control technology of the feeder supplier that performs the actual control operations.
For networks of weigh feeders with ISC modules not connected to central automation systems, touch screen operating and display units for 1 to 32 feeders are available. However, as these are equipped with the required interfaces, they can also be used as local operation units in combination with automation systems.
