Capacity Calculation for a Five Roll Troughed Belt Conveyor

Dear All,

I am wondering if there is any published literature or if anyone might be able to enlighten me about how to calculate the capacity of a five roll troughed belt conveyor?

I am familiar with the DIN 22 101, ISO5048 and CEMA Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials (editions 5 and 6) publications but these only give calculations for 3 roll troughed conveyors.

In particular, I am wondering what would be accurate/reasonable formulas to calculate the width of the belt that lies above the centre roll and the trough angle of the lower two angled rolls?

Thanks in advance.

Use the same formula that you use for segment plus trapazoid for three roll, just an another trapazoid.

I suppose what I am after in particular is if anyone has come up with an equivalent formula for the (0.371 x BW + 0.25) equation that is is nominated for the belt width above the centre roll for 3 roll trough belts in the CEMA books.

Also, if someone could give me guidance on what would be an appropriate assumption of the trough angle of the lower two angled idlers in terms of the trough angle nominated for the upper two angled idlers. Or is this usually/always just half of the nominated trough angle?

Thanks again,

James

A workable center roll formula is: CRL= (.225*W + 20) (mm)

Typical angle vary according to the installation, with 25 degrees for first trough wing roll angle and 50 degrees for second outer wing roll. Optional 30 degrees and 60 degrees are also used, depending on the application. The latter is used in loading stations to minimize leakage under the skirts, and spillage as the product leaves the skirts.

You will find the 3-roll trough can increase product crossectional area for same belt width vs. 5-roll.
