Looking for a return idler that does not need to be lubricated. Having issues with proper maintenance and lubrication. Belt is 48" wide on a 27 degree incline and transports hog fuel to a boiler. Thanks.

There are many carry and return seal-for-life deep groove ball bearing idler mfgrs. The idler roll bearings are lubricated at the factory. Often the internal bearing seals are the shield type to maintain grease in the roller cavity.

Dear Squating Dog.. (Squatting dog perhaps?)

You can use standard 10 degree vee return idlers either with 25mm shafts fitted with BB1B 420205 or 6205 bearings or if the tensions are heavy and idlers are long spaced, use 30mm shafts with BB1B420306 or 6206 bearings.

These will be sealed for life as Larry says... so no worry about lubrication as long as the seals hold out (seals should last +-45 000 hours).

Incidentally.. what the heck is Hog fuel, and how do you get it up a 27 degree incline? (If this is a pocket belt then you will need stub rolls)

Dear Mr. Squating Dog,

Grease packed for life idlers are now a days quite common. These idlers have ball bearings. You will find many suppliers for such idlers.

The large scale users such as mines or other installations also have facility in their workshops to open such idlers, clean the internals replace some seal etc. and refill the grease if the idler is in good condition but grease has deteriorated by aging, contamination after their use for sufficiently long time.
