Greenbank specialises in basalt liners for the bulk material handling industry and have more than 50 years of expertise on their applications.
Basalt liners are specially engineered to provide a long-lasting lining to static plant over which large volumes of abrasive and/or corrosive materials are passed.
Compared, for example, with mild steel on a wet coal chute, where the steel suffers from corrosion as well abrasion, we would have no doubt that basalt tiles would last at least 15 times the life.
Furthermore, the material passing over the Basalt gradually gives it a high polish. In direct contrast to other linings, friction is
reduced the more use the Basalt gets.

Better Than Basalt Liners
I can purpose you a better solution.
By exemple, one of my Customers, specialised in glass production, used basalt liners elbows on pneumatic transfer of mix of silica, borax, boric acid and other.
The duration of life of basalt elbows was aroun 5 month.
When he trys our patented abrasion resistant elbows, the first one has a life of 7 years in the same condition of use.

Our company has over 30 years experience solving abrasion problems associated with material handling. Basalt liners will perform very well if the application meets the following criteria:
Low angle impingment (less than 20 degrees)
relatively low velocity
works better if the material is wet
Most successful applications of Basalt is as a pipe liner where the flow is relatively laminar. The success of Basalt is therefore application dependent. We would be pleased to provide a more detailed opinion if you will share specifics of your project including material handled, paricle size, chute or piping design and chemisty of the material.

CBP Engineering has been successfully supplying cast basalt lined materials handling systems for 35 years. These are supplied as pipes, chutes, hoppers and conveyors.
When used in the correct applications most systems have a useful life expectancy of 20-25 years service.
Along with our basalt linings we supply alumina ceramics, silicon carbides, tungsten carbides and composites.
What is most important in choosing the right material is the application specifics. There are no "one size fits all" abrasion resistant material.
Consideration must be given to many factors including, impact, velocity,temperature,size and make up of the materials being transported.
Choosing a bonding method is also critical to successful applications. Along with the factors above, are there chemicals present that will attack the adhesives?
In short, none of the products mentioned in this forum will provide the expected results if misapplied.

CBP Engineerings cast basalt tiles have been and continue to be used successfully in these exact applications in steel making plants around the world.
Basalt tiles have been used to replace the more costly alumina ceramic and other type linings. These basalt linings provide excellent life in the stock house, chutes, hoppers, bins, and coke handling. Most applications show a 10-15 year life before replacement.
With the ability to economically cast our tiles in engineered and also larger shapes/sizes over other lining systems, the plants installation cost decrease through efficiency. ■
