Suitable liner alloy

Posted in: , on 19. Dec. 2007 - 23:30

Hi eberybody,]

We pass highly abrassive material (MOHs number 6) thru the mill for grinding. It is veery abrasive and mill gets worn out very fast. the inner liner of the mill needs to be replaced very often.

can anybody has an experience in selecting best lining material which can sustain very high abrasion. material or alloy that has MOH hardness of more than 7.

Thank you in advance,

Liners For Highly Abrasive Material

Posted on 19. Dec. 2007 - 10:38

hi everyone,

I am using very hard material (moh scale 6) which causes high wear for the liners of the mill that it passe through.

i am looking for the liner alloys that can be used as replacement to the existing Ni-hard liners.

which liners can be suitable for my application

thank you very much in advance,

ichemie

Better than changing liner material is changing liner design.

Conveyor Dynamics, Inc. (CDI) modified the liners in the Cadia 40 ft SAG mill. We increased the liner wear life from 115 days to 148 days through a change in liner geometry. We also were able to decrease the work index and increase throughput.

There are many factors that make these changes possible and there are many questions that need to be answered before undertaking similar projects.

Since this work was completed about 5.5 years ago, we have advanced the mill geometry to a new level and filed patents on a new type of lifter geometry with greater breakage potential.

Steve Hart , Cadia's mill metallurgist, was the first author on a SAG2006 paper on this subject, I was the paper's second author.

If you have an interest in this work and how it might help you, email me.

Please give some more details

1. Type of Mill and type of liners used.

2. feed size and product size.

3. Dry mill or wet mill.

4. Mill throughput per hour.

I don't know of any bigger grinding mills, do you?

On the point of liner hardness, Mohs' 6 is a very soft metal with a Brinnel equivalent of about 150. Most mill liners have a Brinnel range from 350 (low) to 700 (high).

I suspect the low hardness level is due to the local casting expertise.

If you mill uses balls, then the restriction might be the liner design that promotes ball breakge due to high impact force.

Design of mill, mill contents, and many other factors can lend understanding to the best selection. Since we know so little of your mill features and product to grind, all the hyperbola has marginal value. We seem to waste our time trying to solicit your support in providing the necessary information.

Nordell,

No.

Even more off topic, if you are interested the Ridgeway Deeps ( / Cadia) project has been approved:

hello,

you can use aluminiun oxide, or zirkonium oxide. hardness 9 mohs. it is common used.

Mill Liner.

You dont say what material you are grinding and to what size.

Can you also inform us of what the throughput is and the concentration ?

If you can email the details to us we can specify the lining and any lifters along with the performance benefits against Ni Hard profiles.

We can also inform you of your media change to produce your finished product.

email = trevor@densit.co.uk
