Belt Travels Sideways

The Belt Goes To Right Side In Forward Movement On.

Dear Friends,

I have flat belt conveyor system. My belt is made of PU with 1mm thickness. total lenght of belt is 4500mm. My problem is that in the counter clockwise motion of the head pulley my belt moves to the right side and in clockwise motion it goes to left side over the head pulley. The structure is leveled. what is the source of the problem and what is the solution ???

tnx.

One source could be the two pulley axises are not parallel. If they are not parallel, the belt will tend to the shorter axial distance.

Hi,

Another source could be the way the pulleys have been machined, a bias on the machining may have been created. With such short flat belts it is usually advisable to install crowned pulleys as such belts are notoriously hard to track centrally.

Dear Mr.Behrang,

When this conveyor was installed? If this is a new belt, how was the performance of previous belt?

Or is it newly installed for first time? Have you done any modifications recently?

Regards,

How is the belt spliced? If the splice is not square - 100% true it will ride to one side as the splice goes by. In a belt this short it may not have time to get back on track.

Are both pulleys level?

Are the pulley axles parallel?

Is the total length of the belting equal on both sides?

It seems from your description that this belt runs in both directions.

Any one who has ever tracked a reversible belt knows the answer to this one. Your idlers are not square to the centre line. That is why they force the belt in a different direction when the belt reverses.

Square all idlers, carrying & return, to the centre line. Same for the pulleys. Then run the conveyor and make only minor adjustments until it tracks properly in both directions. Do not touch the pulley alignment. Start with the return run first, then do the carrying run.

Also, make sure that if you have self aligning idlers, that the tracking roll is on the centre of the outside roll. Other wise it will do the job in one direction, and work against you in the other direction.
