Dear Sir,

My stockpile height is about 16mtrs from top of the rail.

My reclaiming capacity is about 8000t\hrs.

What shall be the optimum dia meter of bucket wheel? Please provide the calculation if any.

Thanking you.

Hello,

You have mentioned only capacity mtph and stockpile height. You please also mention the material name, bulk density and size. This will enable somebody to mention likely size of bucket wheel from the known installations (public information). The designers and manufacturers of the machine will mostly not give such information unless you have realistic business activity with them.

To put your confused mind at rest::::there is no calculation.

As Ishwar says, you need to engage with the manufacturers. That step puts you at their mercy. There is no published data which you can reasonably rely on. Trans Tech used to have a textbook on the subject but it has been out of print for many years: probably because it wasn't much use anyway. As I recall it was obsessed with those lignite leviathans so prevalent before the Berlin Wall came tumbling down. There was some mention of stacker reclaimers but I closed the book when I couldn't find anything realistic about cutting forces. Mr Banerjee has the only copy I know of apart from some libraries where mining is, or was, studied eg Perth and Nottingham. Don't bother looking for a copy though, because if you find one it will take you nowhere.

Manufacturers of stockyard machinery do not, in my experience, get down to revealing the calculations until the thing is nearly delivered. They need time to get their act together, so they say. Contrast this situation with pressure vessels and cranes where the calculations must be presented and approved before work can begin. The whole business of stockyard machinery has turned into a con where a few conglomerates supply very expensive machines: confident in the knowledge that the CAPEX will be reviewed by non technical people. Show me a manufacturer who tests the material before designing the machine. Cat got your tongue?

With the collapse in oil prices I am surprised that such expensive machinery is being considered at all.

Hello,

Calculation procedure for bucket wheel diameter is known, but I think it is better to leave it between machine supplier and buyer; as said earlier.
