PVC Pneumatic Conveying

Posted in: , on 8. Apr. 2014 - 10:10

We are using a Pneumatic system to transfer PVC powder from the hopper till the Silos. It a 3", SS 231 line, flow rate of air is 25m/s2 and the product to air ratio is 1:10. The bends are of Miter type.

We are facing issues regarding PVC gel formation which is hampering the products quality.

The problem here is how to control this issue. Kindly share any such experience that can help us remove this Gel formation.

thank you in advance,

I sounds like the build up is in the bends ? Normally this type of build up is impact related and the

installed Miter type bends do not help either. The stated air flow 25m/s2 is bit confusing kindly confirm

the units as I cannot calculate the air velocity. I would look at following things to improve the situation.

1. Reduce the velocities in the conveying pipe.

2. Use long radius bends of if acceptable suitable rubber hose as bends.

3. If the build up is on the straight pipes then i would also look at conveying air temperature.

Hope it helps!
