Pneumatic transport of cohesive powder

Posted in: , on 19. Oct. 2007 - 14:02

Hi!

I've involved in a project to solve some flow problems with a very cohesive and sticky powder.

We have to improve the way to load this powder into an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) from the original drums.

Actually the oepration is done by gravity, resulting in a 4 hours operation to load 160 Kg.

I was thinking to propose a pneumatic transport of this powder.

Do you have any experience with the pneumatic transport of a cohesive/sticky powder? Do you know any supplier with whom organize some trials? I write from Italy.

Do you further know any equation to design such a system?

Many thanks for your support,

Carlo

If you put a name and some physical / chemical properties to your sticky cohesive powder, people might be able to help you bit more…

The products you so briefly describe are usually classified as a Group C material using the Geldart Model.

We would look very carefully as to the type of pneumatic system to offer and the design of the system for such a material.

As Mantoo suggests, if you give more details, your product may be recognizeable to the equipment suppliers but they will very likely want to see some samples for physical testing and possibly even a larger sample for conveying trials.

There are numerous suppliers of equipment who can offer you a detailed solution.

If you send me an e-mail to my address below with more details, I'd be happy to give you some names and contact numbers

dear friend.

Jack has wortked for ever in handling difficult materials , if someone can help you he will..cohesive products are a difficult issue for pneumatic conveying , if the cohesivity comes from humidity .

If the cohesivity comes from the particle size and deareation , then the problem is not a problem . you can always aereate it or use fluidizing pans .

if the probelm is arching or ratholing yçthere are many diffrent approacjhes beside pneumatic conveying.

you can also send me an email , with details (you do not need to say what tyhe material is) and I might bne able to help you or do as jack reccomended , contact him , and if it is in my area he will contact me.
