Complete design of dilute phase pneumatic conveying systems

Complete design of a pneumatic conveying system requires both its basic design and the design of its equipment and components. Basic design establishes conveying pressure, conveying airflow rate, and pipeline diameter for the conveying system. This subject was covered in my article “Theory and Design of Dilute Phase Pneumatic Conveying Systems”, published in Powder Handling and Processing magazine’s January/February 2005 issue. Design of conveying system’s equipment and components is covered in complete detail in my following articles published in various issues of Chemical Engineering magazine:

•“Moving Air in Pneumatic Conveying Systems, September 2011”. It covers design, sizing, and selection of blowers and fans.

•“Rotary Valves in Pneumatic Conveying Systems, July 2013”. It covers design, sizing, and selection of rotary valves.

•“Rules of Thumb for Pneumatic Conveying Pipe Lines, May 2012”. It covers design and selection of valves and piping.

•“Design Guide for Dust Collectors, February 2005”. It covers design, sizing, and selection of dust collectors.

•“Instrumentation and Conveying Velocity in Dilute Phase Pneumatic Conveying, March 2014”. It covers design of instrumentation and control systems. It also gives a method for determining optimum conveying velocity.

•“Dust Explosions: Prevention and Protection, November 2012”. It covers complete design of dust explosion prevention and protection devices.

These articles should be helpful to process and project engineers involved in the design and operation of pneumatic conveying systems. Please contact me if you need a copy.
