Daer JR Prado:

I am aware of three major suppliers of sandwich belt systems. They are Svedala (Stephens-Adamson), Continental Conveyor, and Dos Santos International.

Stephens-Adamson originally developed the concept and successfully placed many systems in ships for self-unloading purposes.

The sandwich belt system is one that has been succesful in high lift applications where little space is available. The fastest running system that I am aware of is at 1080 feet/min.

The systems have been used for ships, mines, tunneling projects, quarries, etc.

Although, the belts appear to be of heavy duty general purpose construction, the specification is a bit more complex. They require a lower modulus to contend with the edge pressures involved.

If you require assistance in specification, installation, troubleshooting, etc., feel free to contact me.

Dear Mr. Prado,

Dos Santos International are the worlds foremost authorities on the sandwich belt high angle conveyor technology. The writer has been the driving force for the technological development since 1979. Please visit our web site at http://www.dossantosintl.com. Please contact us with your requirements so that we may make our proposal for your project. Also please see our latest article on the subject, "Sandwich Belt High Angle Conveyors according to the Expanded Conveyor Technology", published in Bulk Solids Handling, 1/2000, vol 20, No. 1, Jan/March, 2000.

I would have to recommend the HAC (High Angle Conveyor)

which is manufactured by "Continental Conveyor & Equipment

Company".

Sandwich Belt Conveyors

With reference to various comments on Sandwich Type Belt Conveyors I believe that I can add some insightful comments. Having spent the past twenty years manufacturing and marketing sandwich belt conveyors for small, in-plant bulk handling applications, I made it my business to keep up with the field. In my mind there can be no question as to the better of the two major systems on the market.

The HAC conveyor, invented by Joseph Dos Santos when working at the old Dravo Corporation, was the best available for many years – until Joe developed and started marketing his Snake conveyor. This development, built upon his hands-on experiences with his HAC design, eliminates what I consider an unnecessary weakness of the HAC: the spring-loaded pressing mechanism with its maintenance and replacement problems.

Besides, the loss of its guiding and inventive genius to Dos Santos International seems to me to endanger CCC’s ability to keep up, technically, with Joseph Dos Santos’ creative inventiveness in his specialty.

I should note that, unlike other commentators in this forum, I have no financial ties to either, CCC or Dos Santos International, but I just like to see the better system win.

I highly recommend the DSI Snake Sandwich High Angle Conveyor, by Dos Santos International. Those who have followed the Sandwich-Belt High-Angle Conveyor developments, since 1979, know that success in this technology has been due to the broad developments and ingenuity of the inventor Joseph A. Dos Santos. Indeed he is inventor of the HAC and the Snake. The Snake is the most up-to date and has its origins in the early developments. It truly uses all conventional conveyor components (eliminating the none-standard, troublesome, pressing mechanisms of the HAC).

A technology is as good as the engineers responsible for its design. None is more qualified than Dos Santos International.

We have installed such belting for sandwich system. The manufacturer of conveyor was Continental Conveyor in Winfield, Al.
