You could always spray it with water allowing the water to convert to steam.

Since you are already using a screw conveyor and depending on the length of it you could install a water jacket onto the outside and run cold water through the jacket in the reverse flow of the hot material.

We used to cool salt coming out of our dryers that way in the evaporator plants and it was very effective. But it was not as hot as what you are describing.
