Drying in the Pegasus® Vacuum Coater

Dinnissen Process Technology introduces new functionality

The Pegasus® Vacuum Coater is a valuable and flexible tool for every company involved in the production of granular and extruded products in compliance with modern requirements. It allows producers in the feed and food sector to create a vacuum environment within their production process, which in turn enables them to effectively deal with a wide range of challenges. Dinnissen is now introducing a new application for the vacuum coater on the market: “drying a wide range of ingredients at low temperatures.” The advantage of this novel drying process is that it ensures complete retention of taste, colour, vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

Creating a vacuum environment within production processes

Until now, the Pegasus® Vacuum Coater has been used primarily to add essential substances - including aromas, oils, vitamins, minerals and enzymes - to granules and extruded products. The Pegasus® Vacuum Coater makes it possible to add the precise amount of powder or liquid required, after which the added substances are drawn deep into the granule. With this method, batches of solid as well as liquid ingredients can be mixed quickly and very homogeneously. While doing so, it is even possible to quickly add several layers onto granules and extruded products and to vary the vacuum conditions. By switching the vacuum on and off, it is possible to ensure that liquids penetrate more deeply or less deeply into the granule.

Switching to a new recipe quickly and flexibly

Until now, the Pegasus® Vacuum Coater has proved its worth in particular as a solution for those who wish to add vitamins, enzymes, prebiotics and probiotics after the heating process, while retaining the full activity of these substances. It has become clear that the Pegasus® Vacuum Coater is able to add significantly larger quantities of liquids to powders, granules and granulates than more traditional production methods. It also turns out to be a very flexible production tool. The sophisticated control programme makes it possible for producers to quickly and easily vary the vacuum conditions as well as the injection of powders and liquids. This makes it possible to use the vacuum coater, within a single production line, for the production of a wide variety of products, while quickly and easily switching from one recipe to another. This is also feasible for smaller batches.

Fast and efficient drying without addition of heat

During the Industrial Processing trade fair, Dinnissen will be introducing a new application for the vacuum coater, based on the physical phenomenon that liquids boil at a lower temperature under vacuum. As a result, moisture can be removed from products even at low temperatures in the Pegasus® Vacuum Coater. The introduction of this new drying functionality for the vacuum coater is a welcome solution for all those who need to dry their products while at the same time ensuring the retention of taste and colour as well as the full functional activity of substances such as vitamins, minerals, flavours and enzymes. This applies to a wide range of products such as powders, granules, herbs and spices for producers in the feed, food and chemical sectors. Of course, the additional drying functionality in the Pegasus® Vacuum Coater can be combined in a single process step with the other existing functionalities of the Pegasus® Vacuum Coater. This includes the addition of natural aromas and flavours to powders, granules and spices.
