4B Introduces RLI Shaker – Rotary Paddle Level Indicator

The RLI “Shaker” rotary level switch is used to detect high / low levels of bulk granular solids in bins, tanks and silos. It can also be used as a choke switch to detect plug conditions in spouts, where long life and failsafe detection is required.

Utilizing a unique stepper motor drive, the RLI “Shaker” rotates clockwise, then counter-clockwise and then shakes to shed any excess material build up, thus the name "Shaker". If the paddle rotation is impeded at any time by the bulk material, then the electronic circuit provides a signal for level indication or control.

The RLI “Shaker” uses fewer mechanical parts compared with standard rotary level indicators. No gearbox or clutch is required as the stepper motor drive is directly coupled to the output shaft and is practically indestructible and cannot be damaged by forced or backwards rotation. Also, an adjustable torque control allows one unit to cover many different densities of material, and provides easy on site calibration without having to change paddles.

The RLI Shaker is ATEX certified.

Yes, no good in dusty environments and surface of the laser source needs to be kept clean. Not recommended except in some specialised applications

I was thinking of scanning a 25m square open pile to monitor it's volume, doesn't need accuracy to 1 m3 ????

If this is not suitable, any suggestion for a solution? The problem won't go away

There is a person in Melbourne Australia who has developed such a system for monitoring volumes on conveyor belts while they are operating. Pilbara Iron (Rio Tinto) have installed the system at their Dampier Operations. Works very well. I can dig out contact details if you are interested

Silomax And Siloter Level Switches (Sensors)

SILOMAX

The sensor SILOMAX is intended for recognition limiting level of loose material in chambers, possibly in tubular roads. Output information, i.e. level is/isn't achieved can be used for alarm indication, blocking, possibly as input to central system.

Measuring principle:

SILOMAX is level switch. If the level exceeds (or falls bellow) a limit value, its relay contact switches. The level of loose material is investigated with rotary measuring vane. Size of the vane can be adjusted by character of the measured material.

DURING THE MEASUREMENT OF MINIMUM LEVELS IS NECESSARY TO LOCATE A PROTECTIVE ROOF ABOVE MEASURING VANE OR USE METER WITH MODIFIED VANE.

Implementation:

Sensor is fixed into the measuring opening by screwing (thread G5/4"). Through reduction it is possible to fix the sensor into the flange DN100. Inside the sensor is small motor which turns the shaft with measuring vane; sensor's case is hermetically closed. The shaft goes through the thread part and through the bearing and packing gufero. Measuring vane exists in different variants and is exchangeable. All of the sensors are made from stainless steel.

ALL OF THE SILOMAX METERS HAVE CERTIFICATE FROM PHYSICAL-TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTION IN OSTRAVA RADVANICE FOR USE IN DUSTY ENVIRONMENT WITH EXPLOSION DANGER.

Silomax-PT is special version of sensors SILOMAX with extended shaft for vertical assembly into the roof of chamber.

In case of mounting in places, where changes of direct solar radiation and rain come up very often, we provide the sensor SILOMAX-PT with a special roof.

Other possible variants:

with the cooling extender (for temperature of metering media up to +200 °C)

with flexible funicular extension of measuring vane

Mechanical fixation:

Meter is placed into the measuring opening by screwing into the mouthpiece with thread G5/4 (mouthpiece longitude max.23mm).

Electric connection:

Power supply of meter and output signal are brought in the distribution frame under screw-on cover. The clips PE+N+L represent power supply 230V/50Hz. Other three clips represent break-make contact of output relay.

Standard setting of sensors is with positive logic,user can change the setting by switch - see detailed instruction. It is possible to set: mesh moment of the vane for material scanning, output logic (0 or 1), it is possible to set delayed ON/OFF of output relay at the small bins, which permits to place only one meter at the small bins.

SILOTER

Level meter SlLOTER serves for connected level measurement, for material amount metering in silos and tanks. The measurement medium can be both liquid and loose materials. SILOTER can work in a very aggressive and dusty environment too, has the wide use from food industry to heavy chemistry. The measured medium can be both liquid and loose materials - e.g. cement, calcite, fly-ash, grain etc. The basic variants are SILOTER-C with metering range up to 50m and pressure up to 3 bars for pressure chambers and SILOTER-MB portable battery-operated device with metering up to do 50m. The part of this portable version is display for measured values representation too.

Measuring principle:

A sensing weight, hanged on a stainless rope, is lowered into the silo. When the sensing weight reaches the surface, direction is reversed and sensing weight is returned back to the initial position. Measured distance is stored in memory and can be sent to the control system by the RS-485 digital interface (in ASCII protocol). Next possibility is to send it as pulses for a counter. Inplementation:

The Siloter-C meter is placed in stainless steel cylindrical case. The covers are sealed by clamp joints for perfect stuffing and simple one screw mounting and dismantling. The case is internally divided into two parts. One part is for a drum with the sensing rope and the second part is for electric drive, control electronic board and connecting terminals. The Siloter is mounted on the silo roof by the DN100 PN6 flange. The sensing probe can be made in different forms according to application (high temperature, density, hygienic demand on measured medium etc.)

ALL METER MONITORS ARE MADE FOR LOOSE MATTERS. THEY HAVE CERTIFICATE FROM PHYSICAL-TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTION IN OSTRAVA RADVANICE FOR USING IN POTENTIALLY EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERE (EC directive 94/9/EC).

To the level meter is available cooling stainless extender for material metering with high temperature. Longitude of extension is chosen according to maximum temperature of metering matters.

Output:

for type communication 485 SILOTER: RS-485 digital interface (ASCII protocol), activation command START

for type pulse SILOTER - relay output - counting pulses in accordance with rope length rolled out to the silo. Relay output parameters - one pulse for each 0.1meter, 1s period (500ms pulse/ 500ms space), relay contact 250V AC, 1A.

Output impulse evaluation:

SILOTER 485 - arbitrary control system with communications lines RS485

SILOTER pulse - arbitrary control system, one digital exit for start - interruption of supply, one digital input for pulsed floating signal

control processor SILOTER - Y (allows: interface up to six SILOTERs, measuring of silo content in adjustable unit of measure, alarms, connection with technological process, cyclic measurement, time balance-sheet)

standard evaluation unit SILOTER - X is simple evaluation unit with display. Maximum range of display is 99,9 m. Altitude is presented on DIP SWITCHES,
counter at SILOTER - X is counting down and displays real height of surface in cm. In version 1 impulse = 10 cm is accuracy +5 cm within whole range. It is possible to utilize with using commutator of measuring places only one SILOTER - X for many chambers if the chambers have the same parameters. Display of material height, starting button - analog output 4 - 20 mA
