New polymer glue for rubber

Dear Bulkoholics, dear colleagues, dear readers,

I’m very happy to announce that we have developed and introduced a new polymer glue named Multiface®, which is the first glue for rubber on the market with really no solvents and VOC’s. Multiface® has been developed for conveyor belt splicing, rip & surface repair, drum lining, wear protection lining, but also the elastic bonding of metal, ceramic, glass, many plastics etc. Multiface® is a two component polymer filled in double cartridges and mixed with the usual static mixers.

Of course due to the fact that we wanted to avoid all solvents and VOC’s it was necessary to find a new way of cross-link. At least the new mode of action is a providing a very stable binding, like a hot vulcanization but requires some changes of the method of use in comparison to usual contact glues (e.g. the use of a fixing unit or a light pressure press).

Further advantages are:

- Application without chemical cleaners, solvents, primers or adhesion promoters (for metal too) to prepare the surface (of course the release agent on the top of the rubber must be mechanically removed by grinding/roughening)

- No danger for the people, no need to carry a breath protection

- No danger for the environment

- No hazardous freight (you can take it with you in a plane!)

- No special ventilated or explosion-proof stocking area required

- Food contact approved according to EG 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011 (normal version) or self-extinguishing and antistatic (FRAS)

- Possible to use for finger splicing of solid woven belts and aramid belts

- Heat resistant up to 120°C

- Higher resistance to oil, gasoline, solvents, alkalis and acid as common contact glue

- Very short curing time until full functional strength (Multiface 1.5 ®: 1 - 2 hours depending on the application at 23°C/73°F or less than 1 hour at 75°C/173°F)

- Possible to use a low pressure vulcanizing press with 0.2-2 bar/3-30 psi pressure and 75°C during 30 minutes in order to accelerate the curing and restart the belt after few minutes passive cooling (no need of water cooling)

- Less consumption because no solvents have to volatize and only one layer has to be applied (preferably on both sides) and the possibility to re-seal the cartridges for later use (usually 200-400 g/m2 for a step splice; i.e. 3-5 time less as a usual contact glue)

During the last twelve months we have made several thousand tests and many trials. The results are proving that the new mode of action is really working and that Multiface® is usable on a wider range of belts as common contact glues.

New Polymer Glue For Rubber

Dear Bulkoholics, dear colleagues, dear readers,

Now after 2 years of experience, I can confirm that the Multiface® is not only the safest product on the market but that some courageous customers in Europe, Asia and South America tried it and reported that it was very successfully for the repair and the splicing of conveyor belts. The main reason is that Multiface® achieves a very good adhesion with all components and material of usual conveyor belts made of rubber, PVC and PU. On the contact surface with rubber, it realizes additionally a unique chemical crosslinking, which corresponds to the process of hot vulcanizing, but at room temperature. Multiface® can therefore be used both in hot process as replacement for vulcanizing solution and raw rubber with a vulcanizing press or in cold process as replacement for contact glue or rubber cement. In both cases, a low pressure and temperature are sufficient to perform a complete vulcanizing.

Depending on the requirements, various processing time and hardness are available:

Multiface 1.5 with 65 Shore(A), 1.5 minutes pot time and 30 minutes open time for the repair of cracks, surface damages, long rips and belt edge damage repair, but also as sprayable anticorrosion coating. This version allows restarting in less than one hour, even in cold conditions at -20°C/-4°F or less.

Multiface 5 with 75 shore (A), 5 minutes pot time and 60 minutes open time for step splicing or as sprayable anticorrosion coating. By using a vulcanizing press this version allows restarting after 30-45 minutes after applying the material on the steps, because you can close the press immediately (no solvents, no risks of bubbles) and that you need only 80°F/176°F curing temperature during 15-30 minutes. Without heating, you need 4 hours, making it interesting for underground mines (no need of electricity).

Multiface 20 with 75 Shore (A), 20 minutes pot time and 2 hours open time is the right solution for finger splicing. By using a vulcanizing press with 80°C/176°F, you can restart a belt after 1 hour. Without heating, you need to wait 8 hours, which is still very interesting for many underground coalmines.

Multiface 40 is the right choice for steel cord belts, allowing changing the procedure, by using a light duty press with only 80°C and 2-3 bar pressure.

In all cases, this patented product is much safer than all actual hot or cold splicing materials or all usual filling repair materials. Further it enables to reduce the processing time and the investments to less than half, with unsurpassed dynamic strengths as you can see on our web site http://www.hejatex.com. Here you can find also the procedures of splicing and further explanations.

Now after the Corona crisis, I hope that more courageous guys will understand that's it is time to try new emerging technologies, helping to make the maintenance and splicing of conveyor belts cheaper and more effective.

I'm waiting your comments or questions.

Rubber to plastic adhesive

Cyanoacrylate, also called “crazy glue” or “super glue,” is a good place to start when adhering rubber because it's a great catchall for many substrates. Cyanoacrylate adhesive is an acrylic resin in which the main ingredient, cyanoacrylate, is an acrylic monomer that transforms to a plastic state after curing.

New Hybrid Vulcanizing Material For Conveyor Belts

In my opinion, cyanoacrylate based adhesives are the wrong way. It becomes very hard, not elastic enough, are too fast for large surfaces and hazardous for people, environement and transport. In opposition to this, our product really does not contain any ingredients suspected to be CMR and toxic for people. There are no solvents and it does not require any solvents or products containing solvents like a primer, contact adhesive or a heating solution for the preparation. Consequently, the use is really safe for people, the environment, transport and Storage. In addition, Multiface® is also non-sensitive to typical transport damages. We tested it in an oven at +80°C and in a freezer at -30°C during several weeks to check it. And it is officially food contact approved.

Depending on the application we provide or adapt Multiface® with the right pot life, open time, colors, and hardness from 50 Shore (A) to 100 Shore (D), etc. in order to reach the best possible result, as you can see on our web site and on YouTube. It can be used for the repair of small cracks, surface damages, long rips and belt edges, the repair of damaged step splices and steel cord belts splices, but also for the splicing of multiply belts, monoply belts and steel cord belts. You can use it for bonding ceramic tiles on rubber and for many applications outside the belting industry, including for floor coating in the food industry.

Multiface® is already used in almost all countries of Europe, but also other countries, even from renowned belt manufacturers.
