Re: Inatallation Of Crusher At Elevated Height

Dear Shri A Banerjee,

Possibly you will find many coal handling plants in thermal power stations where crushers are installed somewhere around 10 to 15 m height. I am of the opinion that one should avoid installing crushers at such a height because people have faced very serious problems of vibration, unless the crusher is of very small size, like for sampling etc.

In any case, if you have to install such crusher at higher level, you can have a spring and visco damper mounting for vibration isolation. If the crusher house is designed properly, with the above system, where economy is not the sole criteria, then one will not have vibration problem. So, the result depends upon how properly the people design. Hence the paragraph-1 is in the context of actually used design construction, rather than on paper.

Mr Mulani is quite right. High level crushers are a necessary evil on power stations. Pennsylvania Crushers are usually helpful with installation requirement/advice. You should consider casting a concrete mezzanine and pay particular attention to the soffit connections of the underpan steelwork. You will appreciate the need for detail scrutiny as you pursue the design layout. At the heights you mention you must also ensure that any oversize crusher feed can be handled conveniently. Site the crusher near the building wall so that oversize and maintenance issues can be easily catered for.
