Disadvantage of Steel Cord Belts

Posted in: , on 27. Aug. 2011 - 08:59

Dear Experts,

In case of fabric belts, we can use cold vulcanizing and mechanical fastners joint , in case of emergency. But in steelcord belts these are not possible.

Am I correct? Or are they still possible ? Requesting your opinions please.

Thanks & regards,

Not an expert, though there was / (is?) a supplier of mechanical fasteners for steel cord conveyor belts, which is currently eluding. Probably can find the supplier if necessary.

Understand they worked by fastening through the covers, hence the allowable rating would not be the same as the parent conveyor belt.

Consider focusing on eliminating the cause of requiring the splice?

Cold vulcanising joint cannot be done for steelcord belt.In case of longitudinal rip, fastners can be ussed for temporary repaires.

Super Screw once claimed they could fasten steel cord belts up to ST-4000 N/mm from testing with Rheinbraun. Since then others have tested belts near this class strength and found the capacity was not viable. Therefore, Super Screw have not rated steel cord belts.
