MS Pipe getting corroded while transferring foundry sand

Posted in: , on 14. Oct. 2016 - 16:01

Hi...!

We are handling foundry sand collection through pipeline.

the pipes we are using is MS seamless(thk 6 to 7mm), Now within a month the long bend is getting punctured in a short span.

Is there any way to avoid this problem. Please suggest any special coating if any that we can use.

thanks in advance..!!

Hello,

at first you could try to implement high resistance steel piping in the critical places, HARDOX (no rel.) or others, you look it up on the net.

But then, if this is a new effect you have, what has changed since the day eveything worked fine? Depending on relevant operational changes, the layout of your system would need to be reviewed (bend radius, pipe diameter, heavy internal coating of bends).

Hi Mohan,

The quick treatment maybe cover the bend with cement (concrete).

However if you would like to avoid this problem it is better to review the design such as air velocity and bend radius, as Mr. Heilmann advised.
