Dust Suppression Systems

Posted on 13. Apr. 2007 - 04:42

We are producing dust suppression systems for quarries, cement factories, ready mix concrete plants, power stations, waste disposal plants and ship loading since 1994. We are specialized in water systems and it is totally chemical free.

We have installed around 300 systems in Turkey and 35 in 25 countries.

Our systems provide up to 95 % dust suppression. The system uses water and compressed air. The system does not wet the materials as it uses only 1-2 liters of water per one ton of material and no adherence occurs.

We would be very glad to discuss business opportunities with your company.

Dust Mists Or Myths

Posted on 15. Apr. 2007 - 03:33

We admire the effectiveness of your marketing department, but what does 95% efficiency mean in the context of quarry operation?

We are currently looking at fugitive dust hazard posed by a 5 m high stockpile sitting within 4 m high bund walls, or wind shield screens, protected with a 50 m natural bush green belt of vegitation. Would you be able to guarantee 95% efficiency on control of respirable dust of 10 micron particle size or less? What could be the chance of downwind residents inhaling silicon particles into their lungs? How effective would that be in terms of due diligence if sued for collateral medical bills due to children suffering from athma or siliconosis?

Dust control at conveyor transfer points by pneumatically generated water mist spray is equivalent to providing special purpose scrubbers at selected dust generation points. Scrubbers still allow a visible plume of superfines to escape into the atmosphere. What is being done with the dust coagulated by the mist sprays? Is it deposited back onto the conveyor belts for reactivation downstream, or is it being slurried and properly disposed of in controlled waste settling ponds?

Has anyone monitored the dust control efficiencies since plant commissioning? What is the maintenance schedule for spray inspection and replacement? Most operators will assume that the plant is operating as designed as long as high pressure water is sucked out of the process water sump, and there is not a huge visible dust cloud coming from the transfer chute. What level of water treatment is required?

Give us the facts, based on operating experience, not just sales brochures and commissioning reports.

John,

If you want a great local resource, try speaking with either Vic Demetriou or Dirk Wheaton of EnviroCare Australia - www.envirocare.com.au. I worked many years with them, and they will give you the straight scoop on dry fog dust suppression systems. They probably have more successful experience than anyone else walking on God's green earth.

Lead In Your Soup

Posted on 5. Jun. 2007 - 11:54

Thanks Joe,

At the Port of Esperance, the Bankable Feasibility Study allowed for a Pelletising Plant. The downstream transport, conveying system and shiploading facilities were designed and build according to those specifications.

When the Pelletising Plant had problems, and could not deliver to spec, someone suggested - why don't we try shipping the powder direct? Our nickel and iron ore doesn't seem to present much of a problem during shiploading.

So they did that. No problems. No visible dust. Hey, our EBIT and cash flow is just dandy - until the honeybirds started dropping dead by the hundreds, if not thousands.

Magellan Lead Mine is shut today - subject to a political inquiry. The Standing Committee for Public Health can't understand it. Whatever happened? The City Coucil is sending out vacuum trucks to suck out the lead and nickel sludge from the rainwater tanks. The babies have excessive lead levels in their bodies. Parents are worried about how this might affect their children's brain function.

But no dust was seen. By invisible magic dust pollution has been detected 50 km from the coast. That may mean that the 2 micron dust particles could have remained suspended in the air for 2 hours or more. If not, they may have settled on the leaves like a palgue of locusts. When the next breeze came along, they shook themselves off the leaves, and floated in space for the next hour.

It all seems like magic - Sgt John.Rz

We don't fully understand the complexities of your problem but if you wish to control fugitive dust or dust blowing into the surrounding environment (which is soon to be highly regulated) then we would suggest Dust Stop which is a sustainable product that really works. Nothing gets out from under the film that this product lays down. You may want to study the web site at www.cypherltd.com for more detailed information under Dust Stop but this product is exrtremely effective and is used globally in industries such as yours quite successfully. This may not be what you are looking for if you need mechanical devices to control various aspects of hazardous dust but the web site should be able to describe for you all that it can do and it is very cost effective as well. Good luck on this one.

Best regards,

Norm
