Cement Mill Trunnion Liner Grouting

Does anyone have information on trunnion liner installation.

Why does it need to be grouting?

What sort of grouting is it?

How do I remove the old grouting?

Trunnions have bunnions? What machinery are we guessing at?

Manufacturing tolerances & operational dirstortions result in voids at the interfaces of heavy mechanical assemblies.

Grouting fills these unseen voids and ensures that the high working pressures are better distributed over the contact faces. In a crusher the grouting prevents the hard liner from cracking by accepting the load as uniformly distributed rather than a concentrated load on a simply supported, albeit wide, beam. That's the main purpose of grouting, even in brickwork.

In 1990 the grout was a polyester resin & I suppose its not much different today. It is rather essential & therefore a big "invisible earner" for eg crusher manufacturers. It is just about as hard & brittle as the liners & should be chiselled away. Dents in the parent wall can be filled with er...more grout.

Thankyou for that reply.

I have since sourced information from a number of places and what you have written agrees perfectly. However one person told me they have recently started using a new type of grout. A rubber based epoxy I believe. I think it is because it is easier to remove.

Cheers. Rubber based sounds like a good development.
