Calcination Temperature of Gypsum

Posted in: , on 23. Jan. 2007 - 23:26

Hello;

I am working in a gypsum plaster plant and I have been given a task that is related with comparing our current calcination system with our other subsidiaries' calcination systems. To compare them, I got a questionary about the system. One of the question was "what is the calcination set point". At the first glance, I thought that is the outlet temperature of the stucco. Is that true?

Please help me!

Calcination Temperature Of Gypsum

Dear Engineer, Please note that calcination temp. depends upon the followings--

1. Raw material quality.

2. Type of calcining--Kettle type calciner or Horizontal rotary kiln.

The temp may varies from 80- 400 deg.

First of all, thank you for your reply.

Actually, my question is what is the calcination temperature? Is it the starting temperature of calcination or the final temperature of the calcination?

Dear Sir,

I think it is the final temperaturer of calcination.

Calcination Temperature Of Gypsum

Dear Engineer, The temp.for various qualities of platers varies. For exapmle if,you need Hemihydrate plaster,tepm. for calcination is between 170-190 deg. and if,you need Anyhydrate plaster which has got good plasticity,for this temp. is above 500 deg.Please also note that the calcination temp. is also depends upon the quality of the raw material.Now a days there are very good kilns in the market having three shells.

Hi;

Could you please tell me the start-up duration of the gypsum for a 25t/h kiln? 3hours? 4 hours?

Have a chat to the OEM or at least the last people who installed refractory.

Depends.

Thank you Lyle. You mean, it does not only depend on the capacity of the kiln but also the quality of the gypsum, right?

Then, is it possible to predict the start-up duration with the information: kiln has a capacity of 25 t/h and gypsum has 95-98% purity, 1.5%-2% moisture?

Gentleman, The prediction can only be done when someone has seen the entire line.We did similar type of job in Egypt where there was vertical calciner and it took us 4 days to get the right material and required producion of 400 tpd.Uptill now we are not facing any problem with that Calciner.

I assumed the term "start-up" referred to the time to restart the kiln after an outage (and cool down to ambient).

I may have missunderstood your question.

Lyle

No Lyle, you did not misunderstood. I exactly mean term "start-up" referred to the time to restart the kiln after an outage (and cool down to ambient).

Thanks...

I dont think you can generalise, hence as I suggest earlier, consider contacting the OEM or as the refractory often has an influence on the restart have a chat to the people who done the last rebick / cast.

Would suggest OEM would be the best bet, how about talking to plant operators if you trust them.

Lyle

Unfortunately, there is not a plant yet! For the time being, this is just a project. Then, this is one of the problems of this project. Shortly, i am on the design stage. So, i should talk to OEM as you suggest.
