Wood Chip, Sawdust & Wood Waste Unloading

I work for a coastal paper mill which receives all its raw materials (chips and sawdust) and primary fuel (hog) by barge. Presently, we use front-end loaders at two offloading facilities to offload these materials onto conventional belt conveyors. Chemicals and fuel oil are transported by rail barge.

Our existing offloading facilities are nearing 25 years in age and will need significant upgrades or outright replacement over the next five years. I would like to use this opportunity to explore other offloading options for chips, sawdust and hog-fuel. The criteria would be for any new system to be more efficient and most of all be less manpower intensive.

One such system, I am particularly interested in is a vacuum extraction system for solids, from barges. If anyone can provide any information on such systems, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Richard

Roncuzzi Industrial service have a significant experience in bulk handling materials.

We have completed several plants (loader/unloader and combined) for grain, coke, iron ore, soia, sugar, alumina as well as we have been awarded recently the turn key plant for the Unloading of trucks/railwaggons, distribution in warehouse, reclaimer, movimentation and ship loading of a huge plant for wood Chip (Biomass/En-mass).

Problems like break, moisture, handling, care, fire and recycling was estudied and solved.

Any questions or details are available on request.

The best system at this point will be the result of knowing the good and the bad of the existing system and other systems as suited for the requirements. You have not presented enough information for evaluation, including volmetric rate requirements, property and facilities layout, flow schematics etc, etc, etc.

The use of self-unloading barges comes to mind. A self-unloading system using belt conveyors including a C-profile sandwich belt high angle conveyor, for elevating duty, will unload the material gently preserving chip quality.

We have evaluated the use of Screw unloader as well as bucket elevator/unloader, seems to be very damaging of the structure of the wood pellet (industrial or civil). As I sayd before the problems have to be estudied in the totality (mean from the type/s of wood chips/components till the capacity of the ship/barge.

Volume of the en-masses, diameter of the pellets, straw or woods, total hight of the dropt of the materials are all paramethers that MUST be analized in the global project.

The capacity is 350 T/Hr till the last increasing of the capacity to reach 750 T/Hr.

350 t/h initially to possibbly 750 t/h in the future. These are substantial volumetric rates with wood chips and hog fuel. Self-unloading vessels can deliver these rates and eliminate the digging action (typical with shore based unloaders) that damages the chips.

We will be pleased to provide our consulting services to assist in the study to determine the best system. If this is already underway by others we'll be pleased to offer our high tech conveyor solutions for the best conveyor system for your needs.

Dear Joseph A. Dos Santos

Sorry I missexplaned .... we don't need any consultant since WE ALREADY HAVE REALIZED THIS PLANT....we are engineering company, so is our work.

The plant we explane to the original first message, has been prepared and realized during a preliminary phase of 350 T/Hr and in this year increased and finalized for reach the maximum capacity of 750 T/Hr.

The plant we have been realized is working ONLY with Wood Chip and accordingly with the manufacturer of Wood Chip in order to make handling, stocking and reclaimer for Ship loading as quick and easy as possible (as well as cheaper and without damage the product).

Mr. Francesco,

Thanks for the additional explanation.

We specialize in high-tech conveyor solutions and we are the world's foremost experts in sandwich belt high-angle conveyors. Our DSI Snake Sandwich conveyors can be used to your advantage as a crucial part of any self-unloading vessel. DSI Snakes can also be used as the crucial part of a soft ship loading system.

Please visit our website (listed below) to learn more about Dos Santos International and about DSI Snakes.

Hi Richard,

It's Paul Janze from Sandwell Engineering in Vancouver. As you know, we specialize in bulk materials handling, particularly wood chips and hog fuel. Give me a call at 604-638-4628 or email me at pjanze@sandwell.com. if you would like to meet with me the next time I'm at the mill. I can give you a good rundown of the different technologies that are available for unloading chips and hog fuel.

Please have a look at our website, www.ecrane-usa.com You need only 1 operator to offload barges, assuming the peripheral equipment such as hopper, feeder and conveyors have been properly designed. We have installed 25 Cranes so far in the USA, one of the latest for a feed mill. Please contact me so that I can discuss this project with you. Vacuum (un)loaders can be problematic with wet, frozen material and have other issues.

Gentlemen,

wood chips and wood waste in general are very efficiently handled by vibrating floors. Applications thus far are in self-cleaning containers on 6° slopes, and railway wagons. Cleaning of a wagon is visible at www.silexport.com. It takes 3 minutes to clean 90m3 of frozen wood chips out of a wagon.

The VIBRAFLOOR principle is also applied to self-unloading vessels, whereby substantial unloading rates are achieved on low slope angles, typically 12°.

Have you decided what type of unloader you want? If you are looking for a Pneumatic unloader, look at Neuero. Refer to the home page at www.neuero.com and have a look at the "BOI-MASS" unloader for wood chips.

Vibrafloor, Bulk Discharge Technologies

Posted on 14. Dec. 2012 - 02:22

Richard,

VibraFloor is a technological solution for the transfer of bulk, and cost effective for all those companies that require bulk transfer at different stages of the supply chain and production.

The goal is to increase automation, efficiency and sustainability, making profitable in full the different activities associated with logistics management of these materials.

Vibrafloor is a vibrant floor designed based on a system of independent modules that allow movement of bulk, destabilizing the material through small vibrations generated by the flats at the base of the material, based on harnessing the power of gravity to their mobilization .

The floors vibratory specifically designed for each type of bulk and point of application, make the bulk material behaves like a fluid, thereby enabling high speed transfer and low costs.

Interventions are currently in break bulk vessels, stockyards, silos, active tennis, trains, trucks, etc..
