Wet grinding of sand waste

Posted in: , on 12. Jul. 2006 - 19:59

Dear members,

I am looking for an equipment for grinding sand waste generated during kaolin refining. The sand waste consists of small kaolin lumps (5 mm to 300 micron) and quartz sand.

My target is to disperse the kaolin lumps with out much redution in sand particle size.

Please suggest the best suitable equipmet/process route for the above application.

approximately what is the ratio of kaolin to sand?

Is the sand and kaolin in a slurry already and if so can you give approx solids content and flow rates?

Please send your replies to me together with any other information you may have to me at rwoosnam@procengtech.co.uk

Our agitated media mill MaxxMill (http://www.eirich.com/index.php?scri.../Content&id=52) in combination with small grinding media should solve your problem. Successfull trials have already been made for an european customer.

Please provide us with more details about the task like suspension concentration, capacity ...

thanks for the replies

The kaolin concentration in the residue is between 15 and 25 % w/w with maximum lum size of 5 mm.

The solid concentration of the slurry is in the range 40 - 60 % w/v

The flow rate is about 20 m3/ hour

These lumps are very hard to break in nature. In lab trials we noticed that the size redution of these lumps are taking place very slowly in an agitator.

We are looking for an energy efficient method to librate the clay content from the waste sand to prodcuce at least 98 % pure sand.

Have you tried using a ball mill by any chance? If you have any specific questions please let me know as I have done something similar to this.

You can consider using a simgle chamber ball mill with rubber liners and ceramic grinding media. Mill can be sized after review of pilot plant data.
