Plough for sponge iron

Posted in: , on 7. Dec. 2020 - 06:13

Dear All

Good time

We have 3 set 20t induction furnace in our melting shop. So we need 6 daily bin

for sponge iron to fill the charging car. Now we consider a belt conveyor along the shed at the top of bin and under overhead crane elevation. So in our mine is that uses V plough diverter. Please send your comments in this regards. Is it good or suggestion other way?

Best Regards

If you have multiple discharge points I would recommend a travelling tripper conveyor if you have the height for it. If not you could also look at a screw conveyor with multiple discharge points along the flights.

The big thing to keep in mind with V-plows or slanted plows (worst kind for mistracking a belt) is that they will wear and leak. How do you handle the fines that leak by when they go to the end of the conveyor? I am not saying that you shouldn't use V-plows. It is the cheapest solution but it is a wear problem that you will need to constantly deal with along with the leakage.

Dear Mr. Gary Blenkhorn

Thank you for your comments. As your suggestion the best solution is traveling tripper conveyor but we don't have height for it. Finally we decided to use one monorail from sponge iron area to end of melting shop. In this solution we fill bucket under storage hopper and handle with the monorail to daily bin position.

Now we are locking for a best suggestion for type of bucket (easy to discharge at top of daily bin). If you have any suggestion pl. help me.

For your information, the handling capacity is around 35 t/h.

Best Regards

Dear Mr. Gary Blenkhorn

Thanks for your comments. As you mention the best suggestion is tripper but we don't have height. Finally we decided to use existing overhead crane and fill a bucket in the storage area and handling with the crane to top of daily bin. The capacity is around 35 t/h and now we need a good and simple bucket. If you have any suggestion pl. send your comments.
