Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
Dear ce0u1162,
Have a look at:
http://www.ppdairpumps.com.au/hr.html
At least, you have to know the Hr type of the blower.
Alternatively, check the dimensions of your blower and check them against the dimension tables.
If you fail, we can try an estimation.

Dear ce0u1162,
I think it is a HR20 blowerat 2700 rpm and 26.8 kW
delivering 656 m3/hr at 1 bar

Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
hi, thanks for your help, it is a HR20 model.
I have printed off the two links that you gave me but i was wondering if there is anyway i could get more detailed specification sheets on the blowers?

This is some of the information i am looking for? just to give you an example of the detail. I know some isnt relevant to this blower.

Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
Dear Adam,
What else is there to know about a blower?
656 m3/hr displacement
2624 rpm
26.8 kW shaft power
e-motor 30 kW
If you want to know a complete blower curve for a specific rpm with leakage and temperature increase, that can be calculated from the performance table.
Obviously, you are evaluating a pneumatic conveying system.
When you speek of a blower and/or a fan, do you refer to the same equipment?
Have a nice day

Yes, that will help a lot thanks.

Dear Adam,
Any other rpm's or ambient conditions are now easily calculated.
let me know.

Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
Hi,
another query for you,
is there any way of finding out the lubricant quantity in the unit?
also the blower is fitted with pressure relief valves, do you know where they are located within the unit, and are they a standard specification/setting/type? or are they likely to differ?
Finally would you by any chance know the material of construction of the impellors?
Cheers
Adam ■
Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
Dear Adam,
Normally, there is a drain plug at each end casing of the blower to empty the lubricant.
In addition, there is either an overflow plug or a level glass for the right amount of oil.
A pressure relief valve is a separate component, located right after the blower outlet.
The setting is determined by the blower type, rpm and motor size.
From the data sheet can be concluded that the maximum pressure should be 1000 mbar.
656 m3/hr displacement
1000 mbar
2624 rpm
26.8 kW shaft power
e-motor 30 kW
See the data sheet in the given link.
I do not know the impeller material, but mostly it is cast iron or cast steel and seldom steel.
However, you can inspect the blower physically.
Best regards

Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
Hello Adam,
Is there not a local ROOTS DRESSER / Holmes rep nearby who can help you figure this out instead you trying to do it on your own? Some applications take special lubricants and some blowers have a common reservoir and some others have common ones. Cheaper models even have greased bearings and not oil splash lubrication. I would play it safe and ask the factory rep for advice. If that does not work then you still have the Forum.
Most European pressure relief valves are spring loaded and carry a data tag on which you should be able to find the setting if not the manufacturer of it. There are a lot of blower packagers out there that use the weight loaded king of valve and those are tougher to set and calibrate as they usually do not carry a tag to begin with. ■
Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
Thanks, when you say the relief valve is located at the blower outlet is it likely to built in to the equipment or would it be clearly visible? Only asking because I am unable to take the blower offline for a long length of time due to company requirements. It has an acoustic casing around the outside of it, once i remove that would i be able to see the relief valve or would i need to split the blower down into pieces?
Thanks adam ■
Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
Dear Adam,
The relief valve is (must) be located, close to the blower outlet.
Most likely, the relief valve is clearly visible, when you open the acoustic casing.
It is certainly not necessary to split the blower down to pieces. (see the drawing on the data sheet)
If you open the acoustic casing and take some pictures from different sides and we might be able to indicate the relief valve on those pictures.
Have a nice day

Hello guys,
Please find attached a sketch off of a HR21. It should be closely representative what you are looking at. I marked the PRV location.

Re: Holmes Blower (Roots)
Hello,
The HR42 is a 700mBar max pressure blower for roughly 1800-5600m3/h air flow. Do you want to figure out what the current performance is, or do you want to change the performance?
