Tech Tips: Inspecting & Maintaining Your Baghouse

Tips from Schenck Process Service Technicians to ensure your equipment continues to run accurately and efficiently

Whether you have traditional pulse jet style or rotating cleaning assembly, proper filter bag cleaning is essential to maintain air flow and proper pressure differential.

• Dust cakes will occur in most bag cleaning systems. Maintain the porosity of dust cakes to allow air to flow and prevent/minimize dust particle migration to the clean side of the bags.

• Check to make sure the solenoids and pulse valves are firing properly. If the solenoids are stuck open or the diaphragms are cracked, the cleaning air will bleed-off from the air header. This will result in high pressure differentials, blinding of the filter bags, and particle migration through the filter bags.

• The timer boards controlling the cleaning system should be checked to make sure they are still stepping through the entire cleaning sequence.

• A "clean-on-demand" system is a popular option for those that want to clean filter bags based on pressure differential. This system typically reduces air consumption, extends filter bag life, and can prevent over or under-cleaning.

• For dust collectors with a rotating cleaning mechanism, it's critical that the cleaning nozzles are aligned properly over the filter bags. Adjustments to the index sensor (which controls this alignment) are occasionally required.

• Check the cleaning air pressure and make sure there are no air leaks in diaphragms, piping, couplings, reservoir tanks, etc.
