Quick Deaeration Needed in Bottle Filling

I need to deaereat a fine toner powder in as short as time as possible. The material is 8 micron toner and is first fluidized and transported a short distance to a funnel and PET bottle.

The bottle is about 16 in. high and the funnel sits on top of it.

The material forms a highly fluidized toner column that is 24 in. high. Partly in the bottle and partly in the funnel.

This material has to settle about 10 inches before the bottle can be removed without spilling any toner from this filling operation.

Currently this settles in about 78 –88 sec. We need it to settle in 41 sec.

Does anyone know how this can be accomplished.

Your quick response is much appreciated as this is a fast track project.

Accelerated De-Aeration

A way to increase the rate of de-aeration is to provide a shorter route for air to escape from the depth on the bulk. This can be done by fitting tuned rods that resonate at their natural frequency from a small vibrator to provide a statistically empty space. The application would seem to be tiny and probably not commercially attractive for an equiment supplier but I would be prepared to offer advice on receipt of full dimensional details of the equipment if you contact lyn@ajax.co.uk

Ernie:

I saw your post and wanted to let you know that Cornell Machine manufacturers the Versator - a liquid deaerator operating under vacuum. Check out our website at www.versator.com. The machine has been used for the removal of air to correct filling amounts very often.

Please get in touch with us if we can help.

Thanks,

AJH

Deaereation Of Toner

Posted on 15. Jul. 2009 - 08:35

Ernie,

We struggled with the same issue. Being a small toner plant with limited resources we looked into creative solutions as opposed to capital projects. The answer hit me in the face, literally. Long skinny vibrators! Three 9"vibrators with gentle contact, set vertically, in the "intermediate" mode reduced the height of the energized toner is seconds.

Hope this helps,

Dr Ruth
