Biography:
I am presently Penn United Carbide's (PUC) Chief Scientist, responsible for the development of Advanced Tribological Materials and initiation of new R&D activities. I am involved in assessing new technologies and integrating them into PUC's Technology Transfer Program. My present development programs are focused on hard metal and ceramic nano-powders processing with an emphasis on development of powder feedstock for cold isostatic pressing and powder injection molding.
Before my post doctorate studies with the Reaction and Ceramic Engineering Laboratory at
State University of NY at Buffalo, in 1987-1988, I earned a PhD in the Science of Advanced Ceramic Technology from Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, in 1987. Earlier, in Bucharest, Romania, I graduated - BS, in Industrial Chemistry from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, Romania, 1968, and two years later a earned a MS in Ceramic Science and Engineering from the same Institute. Also studied for a MS program in Quantum Chemistry, with the University of Bucharest, Romania.
I have over 28 years experience in the development of medium-to-high temperature materials and processes, the synthesis and consolidation of fine and ultra-fine inorganic powders, thermodynamic and kinetic assessments of reactions and characterization of materials.
I have held R&D positions at Research Institute for Electronic Industry in Romania, The Technion Research Institute for Ceramics and Silicates in Israel, and Benchmark Structural Ceramics in Buffalo, New York, USA, and managed an entire host of government and industrial R&D programs involving application of advanced materials for industrial, chemical and oil fields components, gas, liquid and slurry circulation and transfer pumps, as well as aerospace, defense and molten metal applications. Also taught various Ceramics and Materials Technology courses with the School of Building Materials in Bucharest, Departments of Materials, Mineralogy and Civil Engineering of Technion in Haifa, and Laboratory of Reaction and Ceramic Engineering of the State University of New York at Buffalo. I specialize in the application of high temperature advanced materials and energy saving technologies, being presently involved in the development of tribological materials, opaque and transparent armor, and ceramic composites for molten metal handling and internal combustion engines.
