PTA conveying

Posted in: , on 13. Apr. 2006 - 13:56

Bulk density: 0.85T/M^3

Granular size: 0.12~0.14mm

Temperature: 120~130DegC

Capacity: 26T/h

Distance: H500m V36m B5

If I calculate with 500m pressure drop may exceed 3.5Bar. No rotary valve is suitable.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Not a problem, several global manufacturers offer 6.0 Bar Valves.

Shenjie,

In your data I could not find the pipe diameter or the air flow rate. But 3.5 bars is a very high pressure for dilute phase conveying. At what pipe diameters and air flow rates are you getting this pressure drop? For such a long conveying line you should use a stepped-diameter pipeline to reduce the pressure drop. Let me know if you need my help in designing of this system, as always at no cost to you.

I saw an existing process:

PTA: 90T/h

Air: 3000NM^3/h

Pressure: ~2.66Bar

H: 120, V: 40

Pipe line: 6 inch all along.

I calculated the pick up speed as 12M/s and distination 43M/s

and a small tube inside the convey pipe to set up inner by-pass.

It looks like a dense-phase in begin and dilute in the end.

But 12m/s is enough for PTA flying. -> should be dilute phase.

But why they have inner by-pass?

HELP!

My calculation

Capacity: 20T/h

H: 450m V: 50 B:5

Ratio: 5.3

Pickup: 13M/s

Distination: 42M/s

Pressure drop: 2.27Bar

Can I make it?

The system that you observed with the internal bypass line may have been a technology named Fluidstat. This type of system is sometimes used with non-sticky fluidized powders. It allows lower operating gas velocities. The internal bypass has the function to break-up plugs in the pipe by allowing part of the gas flow to be diverted through the bypass line. It is also applied to systems in regions where power interruptions are frequent. If the system is shutdown without first clearing the conveying pipe, restarting can sometimes be problematic with a conventional dilute phase systems. The internal bypass allows for easier restarts.

As far as using rotary valves with operating pressures greater than 3.5 bar, I don't advise this. There are now blow-through type rotary valves capable of up to 3.5 bar specifically designed for this type of appliation. If you use a drop-through type valve at these pressures the rotor pockets will not empty out efficiently.

I suggest you consult with qualified system providers to design this system for you.
