Fine Granulate – High-grade Conditioning of Substitute Fuels

Substitute fuels for energetic utilisation are produced primarily from household and bulk waste, residues from reclaimed material as well as from production-specific commercial and industrial waste types. As a result of the implementation of the German Technical Regulation on municipal solid waste they replace expensive primary fuels with a high-calorific-value fraction, which is of increasing significance, especially in times of high energy prices. The new “FineCut“ granulator series (photo) manufactured by WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH, Ilsfeld, meets the demands of customers in the comply power plant and cement industry for ever finer granulate sizes and closer granulate size ranges, functioning as fine cut shredders in multi-stage waste reclamation plants.

The new "FineCut“ granulators are designed especially for reducing the size of pre-sorted or pre-crushed material that, as a rule, is reduced to granulate sizes of 20 mm and 30 mm. Depending on the composition of the material to be size-reduced and the screen sizes used, the throughput rates of the machine range from 4 to 12 tons/h. The speed of the rotor can be infinitely adapted on a frequency converter to optimise each specific assignment.

The Hardox-coated special rotor is renowned for its extremely long service life, even in continuous operation at high speeds. The Hardox plating as well as the hardened stub shafts are screwed and can be changed rapidly whenever necessary. The screens are also made of Hardox material, resulting in an overall reduction of wear and tear, and consequently ensuring high availability together with a simultaneous increase of the throughput rate.

A further noteworthy feature of the machines is their accessibility: The hydraulically operated screen as well as the inspection and obstruction clearance flap allow easy, quick access to the rotor and cutting tools so that any possible blockage can be removed quickly and conveniently. The sensitivity of the newly developed clutch, the so-called "torque limiter“ can be adjusted, consequently preventing possible damage to the machines due to obstructions to a great extent.

Cutting tools that can be turned four times are used as rotor and counter-knife. The counter-knife can be infinitely adjusted or by segments while in operation, thus achieving a precise cutting gap that ensures the long service life of the cutting tools used and the uniform quality of the produced substitute fuels.
