Tube conveyor for burnt lime chip

Hi all,

I am involved with a steel plant upgrade in NZ. As part of this we are considering the installation of a flighted tube conveyor for 15mm all in, burnt lime chip (BD=900kg/m3). The main reason for selecting a tube conveyor are the dangers of handling lime on open conveyors (Caustic nature of material and exposure to water).

The conveyor profile consists of a single lift of 7m, from the bulk storage bin (is verticle possible?) and a horizontal length of 75m. Feeding from a bulk bin to a buffer bin. The capacity that is required is 5Tph. The process will consume 30T/day of the material.

I'm interested in whether the proposed equipment is thought to be the best option for the application? Or if anyone can suggest a better (fully enclosed) option.

The main issues that I can see is:

a) the wear on the tube.

b) the possibility of getting a lump of limestone or some other hard material wedged between the flights and the tube causing a jam.

Thanks.

Dear Mr. Charlie,

What I understand that you want to convey only 5 t/hr.? It is very small. So better you use trough belt conveyor with tubeular gallery.

I think a really good alternative for you is an EBS system. This type has the belt hanging from sets of rollers. The belt has thickened lips on the edges and these are gripped by the rollers. It's a very efficient system and totally enclosed. If you feel you would like more info on this, drop me a line and I'll give you the e-mail of a guy who deals with these types.
