John Holland to Deliver Newcastle Coal Facility Expansion

Sydney, 25 October 2010: John Holland today announced it has been awarded the contract to supply and construct Stage 2AA of the inbound and outbound structural and mechanical works at Kooragang Island on behalf of Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group.

The works include the supply and construction of a second in-loading and out-loading stream consisting of a train in-loading dump station and conveyors, stock pile conveyors, buffer bin and out-loading conveyors. The project will increase the capacity of the existing coal operations at Kooragang Island by 23 million tonnes per annum.

John Holland Group Managing Director, Glenn Palin, said: "This contract again highlights the diversity within John Holland and our capacity to deliver large scale materials handling projects. The work will draw on our extensive track record in port expansion projects and underpins the company’s push into the resources sector in New South Wales."

Brendan Petersen, General Manager of John Holland’s Energy & Resources business said the contract further consolidates John Holland’s capabilities and expertise in the highly competitive coal sector. "John Holland has a long history in the minerals sector and a proven track record in the delivery of large scale materials handling projects. The contract to deliver the Stage 2AA structural and mechanical works underpins our decision to maintain a permanent presence in Newcastle and adds to the recent success John Holland has enjoyed across the Hunter region."

He continued, "This work adds to our portfolio of recent work in the coal sector, including expansion works at the Abbot Point Coal Terminal in Bowen, the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal in Mackay and the Port Waratah Coal Terminal in Newcastle."

The new port facility will be located at Kooragang Island in Newcastle, New South Wales. The project will commence immediately, with completion of John Holland’s construction works expected by late 2011.
