Sizefraction or particlesize of bulkflow

I am investigating different methods to measure massflow in combination with the particlesize of the flow of wood chips fed to an industrial furnace.

The chips can be of sizes from 2mm to 100mm and the flow is approximately 30 - 60 kg/h.

Does anybody know of any instrument or any technique that I can use in this application?

Machine Vision Camera System

One of our Allen-Bradley Encompass partners has an Ethernet-based machine vision camera. It will measure the horizontal and vertical limits of the chip in pixels, and our feeder control PLC will convert this measurement into MM. The weighing and measuring control will be performed on a unified hardware system.

Note the digital camera will look only at contrast, if the woodchips contain excessive bark it may be difficult to obtain an accurate measurement. If you would like us to investigate your application forward details of the woodchips and conveying method to dschmidt@melfitechnologies.com and we would be pleased to forward you equipment specifications.

I would like to know more about the application. Are the wood chips on a conveyor belt? About how wide? How thick a layer.
