Need help on LIW feeder

Posted in: , on 28. Dec. 2007 - 19:46

We have a LIW screw feeder and found when manually output material with this feeder, the weight sometimes jumps up 5-6 grams instead of going down. Then it goes down 13-14 grams suddenly. Then goes up 5-6 grams then goes down 13-14 grams......

What will be the problem? Is there anything wrong with the screw? Thanks!

Problem sounds like you are getting slight vacuum in the LIW feeder. Have you got a vent on the LIW feeder hopper? If you have a vent check if it is blocked if not you should look into having one.

For information regarding flex connector pressure problems reference my article http://www.melfitechnologies.com/pressure.htm

Is the scale a counterbalance unit? Considering the jump is repeatable there may be a binding within the scale flexures and/or dampening pot.

What is the time span of the jumps? For reliable LIW operation you may have to expand the sampling time to average out the jumps.

Mantoo, Delmar:

Thanks for the replies. The problem does not happen quite often. Next time when it happens again, I will check it.
