Track Hopper Capacity

Posted in: , on 4. Dec. 2009 - 09:28

In my next project for 6MT Iron Ore Benification plant, layout designed for Track hopper along with wagon Tippler for unloading Iron ore fines/Coal.

How track hopper capacity is decided for loading material like coal or Iron ore from BOBR wagon? Is it generally decided based on such that one rake ( 59 wagon) capacity can be taken care on the Hopper? Also how the paddle feeder & underground conveyor capacity below the hopper is decided based on the cycle time of loading?

Please share me about some idea & also if some calculation you have, please share regarding this.

Dear Somnath Kundu,

Could you tell us more about your project?

How often you have to un/load?

Are you looking for un-loading solutions or

you wont somebody to give you his know-how in calculation and sizing feeders?

What are the targets in your project? Just un/load or you have bins, bunkers, ... included?

Please, tell us the complete version, and a scratch will help a lot

OK another one,

Sorry Louis I had to scratch in general.

Why are you fishing? its all basic mathematics!

How much storage area do you have for concentrate? that is the question you have not answered!!!!! how much surplus tonnage in the event of rail emergencies? Plant tonnage tells us nothing.

You simply cannot ask these questions with no forthcoming details regarding soil samples and soil strengths at the subterranean ground levels period!

LWH*215 pounds per cubic foot * 59 hopper cars volumes times the number of transits per day.

Length times width time the height gives you the volume of either the individual rake or times fifty nine of them for the total volume times 215 pound per cubic foot for the tonnage to design a simple below ground hopper.

How many rakes per day 1, 2, 3 ?

Is a car mover to be employed, do you know what a car mover is? is it manually operated or remote controlled? a locomotive or a stationary mover with or with out cable?

In referring to a track hopper do you intent to use belly dumping hopper cars cars dumping in to a continues below ground hopper the length of the rake in one movement opening the gates, dumping the loads and then saying good day when the rake is removed by the state railway?

Why are you asking about a wagon tippler when you are inferring the desired use of a dumping trestle with a continuous hopper the length of 59 wagons or one "X" rake? what size wagons?

A wagon tippler requires me to ask how many wagons 1-10 per cycle?

what type of feeder or feeders is desired under the dumping hopper to feed a takeaway to the storage yard.

A feeder the length of 59 wagons takes a lot of work and torque to do the job in one pass. Plow feeders are not ment for that if that is what you are fishing for? Do you have a downstream hopper setup designed to feed? do you know what you even require for the downstream end?

Everything you have asked is general and non-specific and not really answerable

as your lack of detail is problematic and as you have not even discussed the issue of rail civil works for a project of this size and whether linear or a twin loop loading track will be employed?

All of your questions could have been easily answered by a site specific questionnaire from a civil works/rail works builder easily in greater detail.

Your questions are easily answered using a search engine and time.

Dear Shri Somnath Kundu,

Generally one decides the track hopper to serve the bottom discharge wagons for receiving the material from one wagon rake, as a transitional storage. So, its effective capacity should be more than the wagon rake applicable capacity. From there the material may be stored in stockyard etc.

For the capacity of material loading into wagons by wagon tippler, will depend upon the time allowed for keeping the wagon rake for the loading purpose or the required dispatch rate whichever results in to higher mtph. This depends on the operational features of your system

You write `In my next project for 6MT Iron Ore Benification plant, layout designed for Track hopper along with wagon Tippler for unloading Iron ore fines/Coal.'

It will help us to understand your requirement. Please give following info:

1. What is the quantity of iron ore to be received at the plant. 6 million tonnes is about 20,000 TPD or 6 rakes day. You may have to design the system for about 8 rakes a day.

2. Please give more information on coal to be handled at the plant site. It is imported coal of known size range or Indian coal from a linkage allotted to you. How much coal is required to handled in a year.

Your answers will generate more questions. And for solution you may have to retain a consultant

You can actually search over here on internet base on calculation and addressing things which mainly focuses on storage problem.
