Hi mmm72600,
A simple question needs a simple answer.
You want to wash clay and mud from small particles of coal. Place a long-distance telephone call to a Screen Manufacturer / Vendor in Europe, Japan, or China. Talk to a techincal representative. They have plenty of experience in coal-washing.
Tell your managers not to be so stingy about telephone calls to solve engineering problems.

You are probably going to be looking at a polyester screen cloth for that. ■
