Good evening,
we are have a Multiphase pump operating in 99% GVF, we used to inject water from tank via VFD in case of absence of liquid to cool the core pump, the pump has tripped due to AP=0, after uncoupling, we find out that the drive end shaft has sheared, without any alarm of vibration, in HMI.
My questions are:
what could be the causes of this failure?
what is the real phenomena, shaft shearing, or crack
what are the analysis steps must be performed?
your feedback is highly appreciated

A gas volume fraction question is not applicable to these forums. We are involved in bulk handling issues.
This post provides no visual evidence of any shaft failure nor does it indicate the process application.
Good luck with a search on other websites! You could have addressed this to the pump manufacturer in the first place. ■

Please check the shaft material with good metallurgist. If it was not as per requirement and heat treated, it may shear. Shearings many times happen due to fatigue load, which do not give indications. Please post your findings. Thank you and regards,. S.GANESH ■
